I believe there is more vibration when you kick the tire to the wheel.

As for your friend maybe his sensor is broken? Unless he has a newer car with a programmed key, which would turn the alarm off when you are opening it.

There is just one shock sensor and it is located inside the alarm unit, which is under the center console next to the e-brake. The sensitivity is adjustable so it can vary from car to car. It will be more sensitive to some types of impact than others, and also to impacts on specific areas. The recommended way of testing and setting the sensitivity is by smacking the drivers A-pillar with your palm. Setting it too high isn't recommended as you'll get lots of false alarms.
Your friend's 02 should set the alarm off if it's indeed set and the door is opened with the key. The system is NOT connected to the door locks in any way and does not disarm unless the remote is used.

I need some help=T I have an 02 wrx and when the doors are locked (what I thought was the alarm being engaged) by pressing the lock button on the stock alarm, I am still able to open the doors by reaching inside the car, unlocking and opening them..I thought maybe my car didn't have an alarm (maybe it was an option the original buyer didn't invest in) but if it is stock..what may be wrong with mine?

The full alarm/security system was an option, only keyless entry was standard. To see if you have the security upgrade, look under the hood at the passenger side strut tower. The security horn will be mounted there if you have the alarm. Also the security module (if installed) will be located under the center console, next to the e-brake.
If you do have the alarm and it's not going off as you expect, it might be in valet mode. If so the security light on the dash will be blinking constantly in a "blink-blink-pause" pattern. This mode can be cancelled by opening the drivers door and holding down the unlock button on the remote for several seconds.

ya, i can't do that^^ lol

if i even try using my key to open the car with the alarm engaged, the alram will go off lol...

so i only have one key, also, if i try locking my car with the key, the alarm will set itself, so i can't even lock my car without making sure my remote is on me lol
