PLEASE HELP !! Low boost, found a hose barely attached
Hi Folks. I have a problem...I'm kind of a Noob, so thanks in advance for your help and understanding. I have a used 02 bugeye that came with a vf39, but I downgraded back to a stock td04. Anyhow, boost has been very poor as of late, so I looked around, poked and prodded, and low and behold...found a hose barely attached. I've been burning through oil and coolant, maybe this is why. Here are pics....I'd love to find out what I can do. Do I stuff it back & tape it? Thanks again Guys !!!

Having a boost leak isnt going to make you burn coolant or oil, that combination would indicate a blown head gasket. But a blown head gasket definitely would not go unnoticed. Obviously your ECT would go up rapidly and you'd overheat. The only spots where you can really be burning oil from is your valve seals or your rings. As far as your boost leak goes, any vacuum hose, piping, or gaskets on the intake side That are leaking and not completely sealed will give you a leak, your wastegate could also be partially stuck open. Not many people have access to a smoke machine but if you know someone with one then that's a definite way to find a boost leak. Hope this helps a little

Yes, but what about the disconnected hose, can I just put it back and be on my way? Do I need to tape it? It seems it was taped on the inside to make a snugger fit, but wasnt a snug enough fit. When I put it back, should I reset the ecu?

Push the F'n hose back in. It's on the suction side. It's running like crap because the MAF isn't reading correctly.
Wrap a zip tie around it for now. That's the PCV line to the inlet.

Just got a good metal clamp on the line, did'nt fix the boost issue, but im glad i secured the line at least. Turns out i'm missing the restrictor pill in the vacuum line as detailed here http://www.cobbtuning.com/info/?id=3482&rsku=0 ....I've ordered a new one, and I'll see what happens. I suspect the previous owner took it out because of the bigger turbo that was there. Still boosting at 5.8 psi after I clamped the line....go figure.

You'd better go over that with a fine tooth comb. Sounds like you got a real gem. Try resetting your ECU might help the boost issue. It's probably a better idea to keep it in safe mode until you get it sorted.

Your only boosting to 6-7 psi because thats the stock poundage spring rate on the stock wastegate. With out the restrictor pill,to reduce the amount of boost going through that vacuum line, its opening your wastegate way to soon.
Get the pill. Throw it in. Be sure you put the pill in the right side of the T. It should always go between the t fitting and the nipple that comes off the turbo. Then you should be good.
