I *think* I can get your friend into the yard for a one time inspection. They both will need to pay $20. I'll call the yard in the morning.
How this works is that you're friend is doing my inspection. Some yards are cooler than others about how they allow inspections since I'm not there with my access card.
If you're friend wants to go ahead and bid I need 10% of his high bid as a deposit. This is the amount that they will charge me if your friend backs out or does not complete the transaction. The full amount is do within 48 hours or late fees apply. The vehicle has to be removed from the yard within 5 days or storage fees apply.
Not my rules but I'm bound by them.

Personally, I think that price range is a really good deal and you can get everything upgraded with the $$$ you have saved.
If my Mazda was sold I would be all over this.......
Anyways, Thanks so much for all the info. Hopefully someone jumps on this....

the TR = Tuner Ready, but it IS a WRX
While the new model's interior is, indeed, drawn from the base-model Impreza 2.5i sedan, it has all of the above basic equipment plus all the good stuff, including viscous-coupling all-wheel drive, limited-slip rear differential, larger disc brakes, bigger wheels and tires, and a retuned sport suspension. There's also a new-for-'06 turbocharged 2.5-liter horizontally opposed four-cylinder (or "flat-four") engine with an air-to-water intercooler.
your friend knows this right? it's not a watered down version of the WRX>... it was designed to be TUNER car. With all the essentials of what makes a WRX a WRX
(although I'm not so sure about the "air to water intercooler" statement.)
