I'll be honest. I really feel guilty because I'm a part of the 'HQ' here on Bagram. I am on a 12 on 12 off cycle and my job doesn't require me to 'leave the wire'. As close as I get to combat is when they have a Bazaar on Friday mornings where Haji is selling, handmade crap, old money, and tons of pirated DVD's (some that haven't even hit the theaters in the states, believe it or not.) There is an uncleared, marked minefield on both sides of the road as you walk off of the base.
I did go to Kabul a few times when I first got here. I was tasked to be the Liaison Officer to Pakistan where I would work at the Am Embassy in Islamabad, PK. I had to go to Kabul to the Embassy there to get an official passport and visa. The technique is to drive as fast as possible through the streets of this big, highly populated town to ensure that no one throws any satchels in your window (it's far too hot to ride with windows up, and you wouldn't be able to put the muzzle of your weapon out, neither.) Unfortunately that Liaison job fell through. I would've had to dress in civilian clothes everyday and grow a beard.
Kandahar is where my old brigade is, so he is probably a 3rd brigade Bronco. They have life pretty easy, much like it is here on Bagram.
Thanks for asking.
