2002 Camaro ZL1 #49
This is the second 02 ZL1 that I have managed to acquire. For those of you not familiar with the ZL1 history, I will repeat the story. In 1969 Fred Gibb , owner of Fred Gibb Chevrolet, ordered 50 ZL1 Camaros. The 9560 ZL1 package was an all aluminum 427 engine. The engine option alone was double the price of a loaded Camaro, approx $7,000-8,000 for the complete ZL1 package. An additional 19 ZL1's were ordered by , Berger, Baldwin, etc. making the grand total of 69 ZL1's produced. With 2002 being the last year for the Camaro, there needed to be a really special car built for the serious collectors and Camaro buffs. Here it is! For 2002 and the final year of the Camaro, there a total of 69 (new body Camaros) new ZL1's built. They come in Phase I, II and III packages. All 69 of them have already been sold into private collections and will not be available to the public. Several of the original ZL1 owners got the first shot at getting one of the new ones. There will only be a hand full of these offered to the public on a secondary market and even fewer of the Phase III cars. This one is #49 of 69 produced. Here are the list of options on this car: Red exterior, white hockey stripes, black houndstooth interior, (9560) Phase III (LS6) C5R 427 race prepped engine w/600hp, heavy duty 6 speed transmission, 4:10 gears, 1 - 7/8's" long tube headers with electronic header dump, heavy duty Penske adjustable shocks, 1LE suspension, heavy duty chambered exhaust system, 18" Z06 wheels (argent), ZO6 brakes, Hurst short throw shifter with white shifter ball, Hurst line lock, 6 point roll cage, ZL1 floor mats, blacked out rear valance, argent silver grill with bow tie emblem, ZL1 badging on both front fenders, power locks, power mirror, power windows, B4C special service package, alarm, keyless entry, air conditioning, rear defogger, Monsoon stereo w/ radio controls on the leather steering wheel, cruise control, remote rear hatch, 6 way power seat, fog lamps, etc. Serious buyers should contact me to discuss pricing . A couple of the phase I cars have already sold for $100,000 and they are only 400hp. This is for the serious collector only! Call for appointment or to reserve a shot at owning the baddest Camaro ever produced. I knew it would be fast but I had no idea how fast. Now that I have driven it, I can tell you that nothing else on the market compares. It is a factory vehicle with air conditioning , a roll cage and a warranty. With 12:1 compression and a huge cam, you can see and hear the car rocking when it is idling. The power is effortless, smooth and incredible. Call for pricing!!!

I don't think I'd pay $150k for one, but that's quite a potent combo. I had never heard of any 2002 ZL1s before, so I did a bit of searching on the net. The description in the link Pat posted doesn't specifically say either way, but the way it was written implied to me that this was a factory setup, just like the 1969s were. Ummm, no. These 2002 ZL1s were actually built by some company called GMMG. Looking at their website www.gmmginc.net it appears they specialize in creating Z28 or Firebird special editions.
I'd be curious is those are really C-5R motors, or if it's "just" a 427 that GMMG has put together.

I'd rather buy a Viper as that not only is a better car but has a better chance of being a classic. I doubt a decent 69 even sells for that much CLICK HERE
