It boggles my mind that my manifold, turbo, and dp have seen 1600dg F many times (for very short periods) and haven't melted.

....oh yeah, all of y'alls manifolds, turbos, and dp's have seen that temp, too.

OH, the XRT6 is Ford Australia's little gem they put into the Ford Falcon. I believe WE get the Taurus pfff and the Aussies get the FALCON with a V8 option and a Turbo V6(XRT6).

If you guys happen to go on a nice spirited cruise at night then pop your hood open afterwards, chances are that you'll see something fairly similar

This proves the importance of an EGT gauge. Aluminum will melt at 1200 degrees.

Well,

I think you'd better do some research. Aluminum will melt at 1200 F? Anyone here with an EGT will tell you otherwise. Plenty have seen 1500+. Do a search.

That's because our exhausts are not aluminum. Aluminum does indeed melt at 1200F.

San, he's right.

It's not a case of the aluminum reaching 1600, it's solely the exhaust. The physics of it is the flow. If those gases were static and were able to heat the surrounding material through radiation or convection, then the aluminum would turn to liquid. Yet another reason to ensure that your flow is straight and unimpeded.

PURE aluminum melts at 1200f. That's why alloys are neat.
