I used to have 19x8.5 and 19x10 brushed aluminum HRE C20s (although light for its size... 20 lbs) on my other car and I was constantly worrying about if it'd get damaged in a pothole or curbed or in an accident... Even for a damn dyno-test... I got super paranoid if the straps holding the wheel in place would scratch the finish or something. Whenever new tires got put on... told the tire mounter more than a few times to be careful while taking off and putting on the lugs and not to drop a tool. Took it to autocross... twice... but don't say I never once stopped worrying about it. And if something happened to it, I'd have to send it back to HRE since there isn't anyone in Hawaii that is qualified to fix it. And if they couldn't fix it, those suckers cost like $1700 a wheel minus shipping. All that paranoia and the long long long tiring time it takes to metal polish the lip was just not worth it IMO. Felt like I spent more time worrying about it than enjoying it.
I'm just glad I changed my wheels now. I have much more peace of mind buying wheels based on quality, lightweight, and wheel strength now than solely on brand name alone. And brand name doesn't always mean super expensive. Prodrive P1 wheels are pretty cheap or like BBS CH. Also, some expensive wheels are better... (maybe not bang for the buck better). When I was at Fuji Speedway, I saw several cars running on NEEZ eurocross magnesium forged wheels including a BMW M3 CSL, Ferrari 360 Challenge Stradale and a Porsche 996 CS. They may be $14K wheels, but they're super light and perfect for what these guys were using it for... the track.

Like these?
You can get baller 18" rims for $1400 with tires.....maybe not brand new, but definitely possible. If not, you can for sure rock a brand new set of 17's with sticky tires for that amount or less and have some spare change. Food for thought.

well that guy wants 1500 bucks for those and he is out of his mind. but those are the exact wheels i was lookin at. i just got a quote from subydude for half that shipped to my door brand new. as for being a no name brand, i dont think they are a no name brand. they make oem wheels for alot of the big car companies including mitsubishi volkswagon and Mercedes-Benz. the P1s are also the lightest ive found and since i race that is important. sure it would be nice to say i have a shiny new set of volk ce28s but those run around 2300 for a set. i dont think that its worth the extra cash at all just because its a name all the noobs have heard of and i can impress them with a name. What makes a good wheel? In my opinion its the culmination of light weight, strength and visual appeal.

ya i think im gonna go with the rotas, i can get a good set in the size i want for under 1300 with a really good set of rubber, plus they clear brembos if i decide to upgrade (its only a matter of time and they have actual tracks in michigan so it would be worthwhile). so the next question is, how do the 18x8 setups fit on the bugeyes? will i need to roll the fenders and are there any other fitment issues?

Well, the car is lowered but for anyone who has seen it its not slammed since i want to keep proper suspension geometry for the track. i dont have camber plates in the back but the stock bolts are maxxed so there is a bit of negative camber in the rear. either way there is lots of room left to fill out the fender. in the front right now the stock bolts are maxxed so there is probably around 1 degree or so, but i can always add more with the camber plates. i corner hard enough in my daily driving that with a little more camber it would probably still wear pretty evenly. I think that it should fit without too much adjusting, just thought i would check.

I have a unique perspective. I roll on Rota Torques on the street. Cheap, hubcentric, okay weight. If I curb or bend one, no big deal, just get another one.
For racing (Solo) I run on Enkie RPF1 rims in Street Modified class. Nice, very light and strong.
IMO as long as rims hold air and are round, I'd call it a day. I laugh at those guys who roll on uber expensive rims and worry about them every mile they drive. They may get the wow factor, but so what.
I actually drive on my name brand rims only once a month for a total time of 4 minutes (4 Solo runs of about 60 seconds each run). Now that's baller. I'd like to see someone run their good rims for a total of 4 minutes a month. Ain't gonna happen because too many guys are about flossin' and showing off.

Yeah it's utterly stupid to buy super expensive rims then drive around like a ***** because you blew your wad on them and can't afford another.
Buy Rotas and don't worry.
Plus, unless you're in the higher echelon of Auto-x'ers the cheaper wheels will not hurt you.

^^^damn I guess I am just a biatch for buying rims that i like that were also expensive.......the way i figure it you gotta pay to play and if for whatever reason I bust a rim I replace it. I dont do any auto crossing but I do have my share of runs on Kole kole. another reason I got the rims I did and opted to go with the more expensive one is for uniqueness. to me rotas on subys are as stereo typical as tenzos on hondas. again I would rather have something that is my own versus being apart of the crowd, even if it costs me double hell maybe even triple
Oh and Blake not starting an arguement just basically stating that not all people who drive around on expensive rims are biatches.
so back on topic, Mike go with what you can afford and what makes YOU happy.

i personally havent seen many subys on rotas around here... i also dont really think that paying 3 times as much for a set of wheels that looks the same and is maybe 2 or three pounds lighter is very cost effective. that said if i was super rich and not getting ready to move accross the country and go back to college i would buy em in a second. i would also have a fully built engine and all the goodies to go with it. hell, i wouldnt have an extra set of wheels for the track, i would have an extra car... unfortunatly im not rich and i think pretty much everyone is on at least some sort of a budget. so cost effective is important and i think at this point the rotas should suit me well. they are fairly lightweight 19lbs isnt bad for an 18x8 offering and are inexpensive enough that if i do mess one up i will be able to afford a replacement. and to be honest they are the most attractive wheels i have found without spending over 2k. i totally agree with jess that you should go with what you can afford and what makes YOU happy. it is afterall your car and an expression of you.

Here's a pretty nice deal. Even if you paid $300 for shipping, you'd still be under the price you were looking at spending.
