Wheels
hey guys, just thought i would see what you thought about this. I am lookin to get some new wheels in the next couple of months and am trying to decide on a brand. cost is an obvious factor and i am limited to about $1000 bucks or less for the wheels themselves and around $1400 for a wheel/tire combo. I want to go with an 18 inch solution in at least and 8in width. I preffer a 9 spoke design but some 10 spokes are ok. I like the work xd9's but they are a bit out of the budget. What is the general consensus on Rota wheels. I dont know a whole lot about them but i do like the design of their P1's and they are a fairly light 19lbs and will clear brembo's if i upgrade. ok make some noise

Rotas are made from the same molds as the expensive brands. Their made in the Philippines by hard working brown people.
I would definitely go Rota way since their like you said... inexpensive and nice designs
Jon
- I love being brown and Filipino

you're gonna get some biased answers. ppl with rotas are gonna tell you go with rotas. ppl with name brand rims are gonna tell you to go other wise. it all depends with your personal peference. i think rims set the whole mood of your car and reflects the drivers taste.......but beware, the sicker (is that even a word?) the rims, the bigger your head is gonna get. haha. also more stares, more haters and more attention.

IDK... I never cared much for Rota.
I like BBS, Volk, Prodrive, etc...
Companies like these (well... Prodrive licenses their wheel manufacturer out) put lots of R&D into their wheel design so the wheels come out strong and lightweight.
Also, I'm a brand *****. lol.
But yea... if cost is what you're worried about, maybe a 17" is better.
The bigger the tire size... the more it'll cost to change them.
Tires can make or break the performance of a car, so I wouldn't cheap out on tires.
My car came with Fuzion ZRi tires and OMG... wouldn't grip even if the world depended on it to... even though it was at like 90% tread.
But, yea... that's just my take. If you really like these wheels, then you should buy it because if you buy something else just because someone says to, then you'll most likely end up with some regret later on. But, if you want something else, saving up for a better one and getting it later will reap much better rewards in the end.

I have a unique perspective. I roll on Rota Torques on the street. Cheap, hubcentric, okay weight. If I curb or bend one, no big deal, just get another one.
For racing (Solo) I run on Enkie RPF1 rims in Street Modified class. Nice, very light and strong.
IMO as long as rims hold air and are round, I'd call it a day. I laugh at those guys who roll on uber expensive rims and worry about them every mile they drive. They may get the wow factor, but so what.
I actually drive on my name brand rims only once a month for a total time of 4 minutes (4 Solo runs of about 60 seconds each run). Now that's baller. I'd like to see someone run their good rims for a total of 4 minutes a month. Ain't gonna happen because too many guys are about flossin' and showing off.

Like these?
You can get baller 18" rims for $1400 with tires.....maybe not brand new, but definitely possible. If not, you can for sure rock a brand new set of 17's with sticky tires for that amount or less and have some spare change. Food for thought.
