^ Looks and some cooling. Same reason for the hood scoops/vents on the Evo. Hell, didnt some of the Older N/A Subies have hood vents and scoops? Think it was the Outbacks or something... I dont know my Subie model history that well.

but if you're really concerned with cooling under the hood wouldn't you want to get the hot air out of the engine compartment instead of introducing more air into the mix, you don't see any JGTC cars with hood scoops for cooling.

90% of the time Toyota put hood scoops on a car for pure aesthetics. Honestly, if that car existed in a USDM model i wouldnt be driving a Suby. 3S-GTE AWD Toyota Caldina FTW!! Sorry but the 3S-GTE is a beast of an engine that i would love to have. Especially in a super-wagon!

When I was in Tokyo this past October, I visited the Toyota Expo building and had a chance to sit in a Caldina. It was a tight fit (5' 10", 215lbs) and the inside door handle fell off, the window was down so I reached outside to grab the exterior handle to get out. Wagons and vans (micro, mini, regular and XL) are popular with the customizers and enthusist.
