somebody, cough cough, got a ticket on his way to work. caught pretty right on with the radar too.

how would this , uh.. person that got the ticket, go about?

is there a driving school that could be attended? or just flat outta luck and gonna get raped on the insurance?

ummm... it depends on how fast "This Person" was going but generally if this is your first offense then you probably won't have any change in insurance or attend any classes. If you pay for your ticket before the court date then that's it.... Unless it states that you have to go to court!

did the cop show that "person" the radar? if so go to court and contest it and if the cop didnt file a police report then theres not enough evidence. cause "my friend" got caught for speeding and the case got dismissed because lack of evidence. if this person does contest the ticket then ask when the radar was last calibrated and stuff like that.

i know of "someone" who was an expert in tickets(the receiving end)

<------
when exactly does "this persons" insurance renew? that is the question- and that will give "this person" an idea how much "time" is left in the low insurance honeymoon. either way the insurance will go up- how much depends on how severe the ticket and if any others "this person" may have gotten- i just hope "this person" doesn't have geico...
comparison- geico quote - 4,987 dollars for one year
progressive- 1,750 dollars for one year
thats with 4 speeding tickets.

heh, thanks for the info.

it was 74 in a 55 and first offense.
i don't think court is necessary, cop said it can be paid off, but if i want court date is at the bottom.

maybe its time to switch insurance, cuz right now its 1,200 every 6 months.
is court the only way to find out if i got a point now?

well if you pay it off its like your agreeing to the ticket so your insurance will go up definatly. go contest it even if you gotta take time off from work. denie everything.

my personal opinion -
own up, pay the fine and look at the insurance hike as a reminder to drive a little slower than 74 in a 55
if u wanna try to get a fine reduction you can by showing up in court judge might
just reduce the fine- but i seriously doubt a 74 in a 55 will be thrown out-
this is advice from a "person" who has bad speeding habits... once in a while

Yo,

You can still contest by writing a letter to the judge...but in my experience, if the cop showed you the speed on the radar.. no way to contest.. but man, worth to try...

For your insurance, $1,200 is dam expensive...

Not to by a D!ck...so don't take this the wrong way but..............This is the dumbest thing I've ever read.

Take any ticket to court it's your right!..... Especially if it's your 1st ticket. The Cop may not have filled the ticket out right or may not even show up to court. In which case the ticket will be dismissed. Even if you are found guilty the ticket will more than likey be lowered.

Never just give up!

The burdon of proof is on the cops...make them earn that ticket.

I may know what I'm talking about when it comes to this....so take it however you'd like.

Oh and......Don't they use Lazer here?

Everyone's input has been very helpful. Paying for the ticket would, admit defeat, but maybe that would would be a reality check to not mess up.

Although, i really don't like the consequences and would like to go to court, if in the least it lowers the charge.
IF i were to go to court, how would i go about it? If the cop doesn't show up then no questions asked and its over? If he does show up then, how would i go about?

Sorry, for all the questions, i'm just trying to get as much info as i can.

oh yah, would i just try and say how sorry i am? or say not guilty?

i agree, that is some pretty hard evidence against u. but, take it to court. my experience has never been with radar, rather with "pacing" (50 in a 35) i thought it was bs...took it to court, explained my side...judge threw it out because of "lack of evidence". so its worth a try

good luck

Never ever, just pay a ticket. Go to court, like Dan said, the burdon of proof is on the cop. The judge will most likely lower it, it's "the persons" first offence.

What speed you were going and where you were, ie. highway, school zone, residential all make a difference to the insurance company.

Go to court.
