Wasing and wheel sealant questions...
Just curious I tried to search for the thread on the best way to treat wheels so you can get the brake dust off easier, but couldnt find it. Can I just use any wax on it like my lame Turtle Paste Wax?
Also curious about the techniques everyone uses to wax their cars. Bought one of those radial buffers or whatever and curious if you do the whole car or sections at a time. I need to do it badly, but without a garage or covered area its hard to find a good time to do it when the cars not 110 degrees.
Thanks.

I would do this once every 3 months:
Get a scrubber and scrub the wheels and clean it.
Wash car, let it dry.
Clay bar entire car.
Car polish with an orbital buffer. Whole car, not section by section.
Wax by hand.
Then when your car gets dirty, just wash it.
That usually yields the best results for my car but its all about how much you wanna do. I've been busy past few days with work so I just take it to Joey's place and have them do it. For 50 bucks, its worth it. You have to be working about 3-4 hours anyway if you do it yourself.

Where is Joeys place. For $50 I would gladly let someone else do it...
Can I use normal wax on the wheels tho to make it easier to get the dust off. I wash the car about 3 times a week and take the wheels off each time, not fun, but it bugs me to see all the dust inside.

I wash my blk sti at least twice a week. I have only waxed once
since i got her. that was in may. but when i wash her i use
very berry car wash and this sealant from acs, i cant remember
the name, but it really brings out the gold flakes in the paint,
also i use flash wax easy on easy off. the blk is really hard
to take care of i have alot of little scratches but if it was a jet
blk color then even more worse. but your color isnt to bad,
since you have no covering for your car you should flash wax
at least the top half of your car every 2 weeks, jus to protect it
from bird droppings. and when you wash your car use a wash
with wax in it. i perfer the very berry, and use one of those
fake sheep skin wash mits. since you have no covering when
washing do it early in the morning right when the sun starts
to come up.
tip; if you dont already, before you shoot your car do your tire
and rims first then the body but make sure you make a clean
bucket of soap for the body first.
they sell all these products at eurosport. kinda expensive but
unless you know someone that can get it for you its worth it
in my opinion.
well good luck, any questions about detailing jus ask.

I've been told that
the harder a wax is to remove, the better the quality. I use a cleaner wax (not your typical "cleaner" wax) that isn't too hard to remove, but also use a "butter" wax (anyone that's been to Joey's can chime in here) that requires considerably more effort. It really does a great job. Lent some (both kinds) to a friend with a new dark blue Matrix and he couldn't believe the difference. His car was only two months old.

I think the most important thing that will determine what you do is the amount of time u have. Virtually all of the top waxes (Zymol, Pinnacle, Zaino, etc) take time....and some last a little longer and some are a "little" easier to work with. I'll probably always be a believer in Zymol because of its water beading and endurance. If your car is in the sun I would recommend against using products like Flash wax.....it is one of the easiest....but there's a reason for it....it doesnt last and will burn off in the sun. You need something with a much higher wax content. But there's support for most of the better stuff so its probably a toss up. If you really care though....spend the dough for the better stuff and be willing to do a little work.
As for the wheels....I think I mentioned in another thread I tried Race Glaze (a synthetic) on my wheels and it seems to hold up pretty well. The main thing is to wash them regularly. If they get bad use a wheel cleaner from Eagle One, Meguairs, etc....or keep up and you can just use simple green. I use a terry cloth sponge on all but the inner wheel. For that I use a wheel brush thats soft and can fit between the discs and the rim.
I'm pretty **** when it comes to this stuff so just pm me and I can tell you about others things I've tried.

If I had the time I'd take them off everytime I wash my car but for now it'll have to be every once and a while when I wax them. The wheel brush seems to work pretty well.....after washing as much as possible you just need to roll the car back a foot or two to get the inner part of the rim that was blocked by the front calipers.
There are two main types of brushes:

I've looked at this type and dont trust them because they are a little rough.
I like this type better because they are a little gentler:

They sell them everywhere...I think Walmart has a Viking brand one for a couple bucks.
