go to rom raider im pretty sure they have a version for osx.
as for being better i would say its the same, the only thing that makes open source better is the cost and you can tune yourself, if you have he knowledge. 100 for a cable and the software is free, but you already have an Ap so if you dont want to tune it yourself just use what you got.... my .02

cheaper and does the same thing basically. a little more hands on but with the money you save you can get a custom tune for your car which will most likely yield better results compared to an OTS map.
OP, do you have an intel mac? Nasioc peeps suggest installing windows to your mac to run the open source software
