V8 Shortblock or 6 Speed

I am posting this up here because I like getting insight from knowledgeable
i-clubbers before I do major installs.

I have a dilemma, saving up for a V8 Shortblock or saving up for a 6 Speed Transmission.

There are no goals. My car is getting pretty old and I have to upgrade one of this things. I don't have enough money for both.

whats your opinion?

I'd do the 6 speed. It's tougher and could handle what your motor is and would put out. If you swap motors and hope to achieve more power, there's still that transmission case you'd have to worry about with the 5MT.

With option 2, I'd think there would be less to worry about. I have a friend who has a EJ257 in his WRX hooked up to a stock 5MT and he worries about pounding it too hard all the time.

+1 for peace of mind. You could pound it all day and know that your trans won't break on you.

6MT because the weak point on the drivetrain will be your transmission. I don't care if you get 'special gears' (insert the best ones you can think of) the case will still flex and you'll still have problems.

Id go with the tranny since its the next thing in line to transfer power to the wheels.

Haven't checked forums in like 2 months! Omg!

V7 6 speed w/ dccd goes for about $3800 + shipping from a Canadian importer. Look on nabisco vendor classifieds.

Most definitely. That's the biggest draw for me. I've often drooled over the thought of a JDM (DCCD) 5-speed with PPG's. The 6 is pretty heavy which is a turnoff for me.

the 6-speed will be pretty bullet-proof. As for DCCD it's up to you if you want to have control over the torque split. If you do go with a 6-speed w/DCCD you'll need a aftermarket controller for the DCCD unit in the transmission.

^^^Did you get one for yours?

Well I already have RA Gears but I am looking for a 6 Speed. I might be moving back to the Mainland in about a year and a half. Highway mileage is going to kill my 5 speed on gas. I need that extra gear!
