University of Hawaii- Opener finally done
Florida 56- Hawaii 10
Boy that was agony to watch. Inoke Funaki got some some reps, and looked pretty good scrambling away from the blitz, albeit he was probably up against the 2nd stringers. They are young though, and can only get better.
GD, though, Florida looks AWESOME! I think they could be #1 by the years end. Lets see how they play Miami.

Yeah, that was painful to watch. Thanks Herman Frazier for scheduling that game!
You can't coach speed & the Gators sure have a lot of that.
I thought the first quarter went as well as the coaches could've hoped for, granted they were aided by a lot of Florida penalties. The ground game showed some promise early on, although Wright-Jackson took a helmet-to-helmet hit. Libre is a tough runner.
The INT's that Alexander & Rausch threw were horrible throws. Neither of those guys did a good job of "feeling" the pressure & knowing when to throw the ball away.
Funaki, on the other hand, showed good escapability... although against reserves as you mentioned. But I like the poise he showed. He gets my vote as the next starter... not that my vote means anything.
Just goes to show the WAC is a few tiers down from the power conferences. We may be able to beat lower echelon teams from the Pac-10 or Big 10, but the SEC is a different story.

I'm not gonna judge players after the first game, especially after they play the fastest team in college. We did get clobbered the first game with JJ from USC. One thing is that UH really misses CB and the dreadheads.
However, our running game has potential and our defense hung for the first quarter well until the humidity got the best of the team.

i think they just need time. cant really expect to much out of a fairly new team with a new head coach to do good with a team like the gators.
im not really expecting to much this season from UH but hopefully in a couple of years we can have a pretty strong team
