Maybe someone could help me out with the 'search'. I'm scouring the internet to see which subie trannies are compatible with the 2002 WRX. Forrester? RS? L?
Also, what are some folks thoughts on someone local installing gears into the bell housing (if I actually won the lottery and was able to buy some Chalaks, Gimmes, or dogs?) If I paid the labor, would Schuman do it? And if they did, would they guarantee their work? Ha ha ha. Yeah, right. I wouldn't if I were them, but money is money.

Pat, the 5spd trannies on the GC8's should be the same as the WRX ones IIRC.
Chalak gears sounds like the best route if you really really are looking onto power and keep the syncros but they are like 2,500 bucks. while compared to the Gimmie Gears which are like 3,500. or you could always rebuild your tranny and have it cryo treated to harden them since you're gonna take it out anyway.

any of the "reputable" shops would probably be just as capable as the next, ....... now how capable that is, .... I dunno.
You can look for other suby/EJ trannies, but why? the RS' is weaker than the WRX, ......... just get a 6 spd already!!

I think alot of people have to consider that their 5spd is inevidably gonna go sooner or later thats why i'm surprised to see no one really heavily considering aftermarket gear sets or even a dog box. it will save them a few bucks down the road and one less thing to worry about.
Our cars are AWD and we have to remember when we're pushing 250+awhp with torque, thats alot of stress on the tranny and on the road with heavy grip tires somethings bound to happen. Most people with tranny problems that I read of involves mostly of 1st or 2nd gear. Just remember though, that even with taking care of the gearing problem, you will probably see other problems such as the tranny case or anything in the powertrain.
