Anyone ever notice that on TV shows that show the clubing scene in the mainland its always some kind of techno music going in the backround. How come in Hawaii theres no clubs like that. All there is is local and hip-hop.

Man from about early 99 to mid 02 the techno/rave scene in hawaii was out of control. When i say out of control, it was nuking futs . But i loved it. There was Atomics on Nimitz (shut down because of all the drug use), Climbers Paridise on Sand Island Rd( same reason) Evolutions in wakiki right next to the 7/11(I was there when the DEA rushed the place ) The Eye it was right across from Byrans Drive in (Man that place was the $hit but it was shut down because drugs also) 17's or the Shlter is still there for after hours but it isn't the cleanist place. that place has done many things from swing dancing to bondage. But from 1:30am to 6am the play some pretty good music. There are a couple of more places i can't really comment on but it just go's to show you that drugs are a major problem at the techno clubs. OH i almost forgot one that i really liked, they played some of the best sounds, The Maze next to Zanzabar (the lease was up plane on opening again soon supposably )

i loved that techno room in maze and it wasnt crwoded as hell either. IDk if maze is gonna start up again cause their lease expired that why they shut down and the owners of that lease wanted thousands of dollars more.

There should be a new club from the owner of the Maze opening up where the Waikiki theaters were in the near future...

P.S. The trouble with techno places is that most of the patrons don't drink that much (they're otherwise affected) so the bar doesn't make any money from them. That means that the cover has to be really high to even make having the place running feasible. The promotions that really made money were the guest DJ appearances though. If we could get more "talent" down here - and attract something other than the e-tards (people that actually drink and make the bar hop) then it would start happening again.
Either that or we'd have to charge $10 for a bottled water like the mainland clubs to cash in on the druggies.

I guess in the bigger areas on the mainland, there are more alcoholics running around clubbing, ... b/c there were always good clubs to go to, and the drinks were cheaper than at the clubs we go to here!!
But Richard's right about getting real 'talent' out here, ... that HAS to happen for anyone anywhere to take the 'Hawaii scene' seriously, ....... but unfortunaltely I don't think many would want to come here due to the 'scene' not being as good as elsewhere, so we're screwed either way. oh well.
.... but when I think about it, I've always thought Hawaii would attract big names, ... but since I've been here, I haven't seen any "big" names at all, ... just a few semi-popular DJ's. Why don't the big names wanna come to HI?? (other than what I already stated)
A club with Multiple rooms is the way to go IMO. It just has to be done "right". (yes, I have a picture of "right" in my mind ) The Maze was ok, but they were just in it for the quick buck it seemed, ... and it got EXTREMELY dirty after being open for a while (not that it was ever very clean ). But hte idea was there, ... just not enough follow through IMO.
