Touch Screen mount is done

Check it out yo.
Car is obviously a mess because it's in pieces everywhere.
Still need to route wires behind dash, but you get the picture.

check out the interface I created the other day:

That is ****ing sweet! Which screen is it? I'm really curious to know how it interacts with your radio & other stuff. Is it a small computer, or just the screen with some onboard processing?

computer. It's an eight inch touchscreen made by Lilliput. It's made for automotive stuff. It's hooked to a laptop right now. However, I ordered the MoBo, PwrSup, and voltage sequencer today. It'll be hooked to a pretty powerful Mini-ITX computer (1Ghz, 512MB DDR Ram, 80+HDD, DVD etc) that will be loaded with MP3's and DVD's as well as hooked up to my Engine Management software. You can see the button that activates the Hydra software. It works pretty good in a car that doesn't roll. It's up on four jackstands still getting upgraded pretty heavily.

in fact, you can see my fuel map in the pics!

I'm pretty sure it's 1600x1200. I ran it at 1024x768, but everything was so small. The resolution was INCREDIBLE. YOu could read everything, but the numbers were SO small.

Screen is 350 shipped. Includes all you need, minus the computer. Touchscreen inteface is USB, screen is VGA. Includes a Remote control. Accepts input from S-Video, VGA, composite and R/L audio and another plug I haven't figured out yet.

comes with AC AND DC car adapters, remote, all software, rotating/swiveling/tilting mount and some other stuff...

car computers aren't too bad. If you make your own you can piece a complete setup for around 400. YOu can get some really sweet one's for about 600. Some are as much as 1000. Those are better than my home computer, though. ****, the one I'm getting is 1Ghz, DDR, ATA133, Built in MPEG2/DVD decoding etc... MoBo for 160 bucks. Power supply is 60, Car Voltage Sequencer is 30-40... I have HDD's, DVD's, etc. Cases are between 70 and 250 bucks. All I need to get is ram and make a case or buy one. I might put it under the passenger seat for easy access. I just need to make a small enough enclosure.
The MoBo is 17cm x 17cm so it isn't very big.

Link for the MoBo that's in shipping as I type.

Dom, let me know if I have this all jacked up. You'll have the computer, with the screen wired to it. No other interfacing needed, as you've made a custom one (very cool by the way). I can see how you can control the movies & stuff, but how does it go through your stereo? I'm assuming your receiver has an Aux input, so you just set the radio to "Aux" and select whatever you want to play on the screen?

Extremely cool setup. I've thought about something like this for quite some time, but need to spend the money on other "goodies" first.

If you don't mind giving up the "secrets".....what program did you use to make your interface?

That is a sweet hookup. That is what I'm looking into doing as well. I would like to see your complete setup when finished. I maybe looking into doing this by the end of the year. Just wondering what it looks like and how it operates. I was looking into a carputer myself but not sure if I should just get a laptop instead. Ideas and thoughts are running wild. Let me know when your done...I'd like to check it out. DrV

Yeah, just set the stereo to AUX. My pioneer has Two Aux I/P's and a phone I/P also. If I wanted to do 5.1 surround I'd have to upgrade my stereo and use the digital signal. But I don't plan on doing that. It's still just a car. My main motivation is to allow me an easier interface for datalogging and parameter monitoring while racing. I'm adding NOS so I want to keep a close eye on everything.

No Danger to Manifold warnings... I'm sure I could figure that out, though.

DrV, if you want to fly out here to NY you're more than welcome to check it out. Otherwise I'll post as much as I can. Maybe I'll make a video of it in action.

and what the hell does h4xor mean???

as far as the touchscreen interface, it's really easy. I just used an existing program called Media Engine. IT's free to download. Then I just created a cheesey skin for it.

OMG

Dom, that is freaking sick. I'd definitely like to do that one day, but it's gonna have to wait on a few other tweaks here and there.

How do you keep it cool (especially on the hot days where the interior of your car can get oven-hot)?
