There have been many instances in many states/cities/counties/towns where the local PD sponsored a " drag track" area. It is usually a street they blocked off and controlled/monitored. It s not uncommone for quite a few of the drag racers to be Police officers or the sponsoring PD had a drag car that the racers could challenge!!

It is quite possible and it does work but it takes more community involvement than most government officials are willing to give or have time for (the police). Most politicians would rather have the limited revenue and the media from the racing on the streets to help push their agendas thru.
