Tires!

Now that we have discussed wheels, lets talk rubber! I'm gonna need something to dress my shiny new wheels when i pick em up so I'd love to hear your opinions. My goals are an 18x8 fitting in a street tire that provides the best possible dry grip without compromising wet traction/safety and has decent wear (I'd like to get around 20k out of them). I was fairly satisfied with the bf goodrich g-force tires that i had on my stocky rims. They seemed to give pretty good traction and were awesome in the wet weather and i never questioned their grip in the water. they were slightly used when i bought the car and i have put a hard 17k on the car since i bought it and they seem to be in good shape still. I would be interested to see how they do with a shorter sidewall and an extra 1.5 inches of contact patch. the guys at suby dude reccomended the Nexen N3000 wich i hadnt heard of before. I did some research and it seems that they are becomming pretty popular with sport compacts and are getting really good reviews. It seems they have been around for quite awhile, just not in the US and are popular in japan. anyway, lets hear what you folks have to say.

Check with Brent on those. I think he's got them on his GramLights. The guy I bought my GramLights from had BFGoodrich KDW's on them and they were awesome tires. Keep in mind, I don't push my car hard at all, but they did seem pretty grippy, and I've heard they're great in wet weather. I also know Jon and Chris posted some reviews on SubyLife about the Bridgestone RE-01r's too.

Federal 595. Good grip, decent tread life and very predictable handling. Pretty cheap also.

Yeah, I forgot, but I had those on my FN01's when I had my STi. Another good bang for the buck tire.

I've got some Bridgestone Potenza RE960 A/S on my STI and really like them. Great for all sorts of driving, but a little pricey.

I'm on Falken ST115 for the street. Okay grip, and good tire life. But what I really like is they are quiet.

My requirements for street tires is that they are quiet and last a long time. I'm not looking for outright grip because I just don't drive that hard on the street, but at the Solo that's another story.

Here's pix of me at the Solo.

REO1R is the competitive tire currently in Street Touring Ultra in SCCA's street tire class for the STi, but on the street it'd probably last about a year, less if you drive hard.

I agree it would make a great street tire if you're looking for outright grip.

I'm running the Federal 595s on my 18s right now. Its a great tire for the street. My only complaint is that they're kinda loud at freeway speeds, louder then the stock Bridgestone RE090s. But that's a minor issue.

I wanna give the Falken Azien RT615s a try on my 17s, for competition. My friend was running those on his integra, and they had some great traction, especially for a FWD.

Bridgestone RE750. Quiet, long-lasting (340 treadwear), good grip wet or dry.

well, cost is gonna be a factor too. im thinkin around 150 max per tire. and they need to last probably two summers so 12 months of total driving including autox events. i am leaning heavily on goin with the same g-force sports i had only in a 235/40/18 vs the stock fitting. they have good all weather performance and pretty good dry grip, they wear well and are inexpensive.

right now, I'm running the stock RE070's for street and auto x, it's not bad at all...

last tires I had was the kumho ecsta mx, it was alright, soft sidewalls and pushing it to it's limit maybe a scary thing, just ask Josh...hehe

I hear good things about the Bridgestone RE01R, Falken Azenis Rt615(my next tires)...

Francis has the federal 595rs(i think that's the one), and from what he said that they are also pretty good....
