for the most part but general automotive knowledge does help. if you're able to line up markings then you should be fine. it also helps to have a torque wrench that has smaller torque specs on it.

if your going to change your oil pump you'll want to make sure you prime your engine. since I couldn't find the fuel pump fuse, I ended up doing the following:

remove the coil packs and spark plugs from the engine and crank over. hold the key no longer than 5 seconds each time. do this about 4 times or so. of course before doing this you'll want to make sure you have enough oil in your engine. FYI, your will loose some oil when removing the oil pump so you might have to top off or change oil BEFORE priming.

The FSM will give you the key points on the matter though. I just got your PM so I'll forward the information to you when I get home.

^ People on Nabisco say don't worry about it till the reccomended interval of 105K, but I say if your driving necessitates an earlier service interval, it wouldn't hurt. I think if you've changed your coolant regularly, doing the waterpump and stuff at 60k is somewhat of a waste.. But preventative maintenance never hurts.. and no one wants to do a t-belt install only to take it off 20,000 miles later (bascially do it again) to replace the waterpump.

I personally have almost 80K (79.5) and worry that my driving style as well as lightweight flywheel stressed the belt a bit more than usual, so i'm looking forward to a timing belt and a waterpump. haha.

If memory serves me correctly, the Owner's Manual states to inspect at 60K, replace at 90K? (or was it replace at 105k)

my purpose to do my change was since I'm approaching 80K or am at that already and since I got my car I was racing it every chance I got at the drag strip and at auto x. I also installed a high stall torque converter and other transmission mods that would directly affect the belt. Further, my oil pump was leaking and my thermostat and possibly water pump was no good.

as stated before my belt stretched 1.5 to 2 inches and the automatic tensioner was fully extended and there was still play on the belt.

My driving style doesn't help the situation for my belt either.

it was to inspect at 60k and at 90k and replace at 105k if i remember correctly.

if you've never raced your car or even drive aggressively there is no reason why you would even have to replace your belt at 60k. i think that you should at least inspect it though and look forward to the belt being replaced shortly there after but you should keep tabs on it though even though the belt CHANGE interval is at 105k
