tax for mainland purchases?
hey guys
this may seem like a stupid question....but do you guys get taxed by vendors when buying stuff from them on the mainland...i'm going to order some parts from this vendor in california and they're charging me tax which is like $50 extra...i thought that only if you're a resident there you would pay the 8%....was i just lucky all this time? thanks

As I understood it, you will only be charged Sales Tax on purchases from the mainland only if the vendor also resides in Hawaii. If not, he shouldn't be charging you a huge chunk of sales tax. You may want to verify that info.. maybe it's for shipping.

i just got off the phone with Nate (former owner of S Squared motorsports in Cali)
and basically its like this. In California- if you were to physically pick up your products from there, you have to pay tax. if they ship the product out of state then there SHOULD BE NO TAX charged to the buyer. the business won't be taxed on it either as long as they do their books right.
as for other states i would not know. i suggest you call the vendor and clarify this.
but this information i just gave you comes from one of our vendors... so i trust that its pretty reliable.
