The Subaru is the one that did better in the crash test.

A word on crash-worthingess of the Neon
My wife just paid off her '01 Neon so we lowered the insurance. Full coverage on an 01 Neon with 30k+ miles was $120/mo. I asked why that was so high for such a cheap car and the answer I was given was that Neon's in crashes are usually totalled.
Bare-minimum coverage for CO on a Neon is $30/mo.

From someone who owns an SRT-4
Please don't mind if I add to this thread to help answer some questions or thoughts -
I seriously doubt that a stock SRT (With just an aftermarket or Mopar BOV) can manage a 41.1 at HRP without slicks. I'd have to see it to believe it. Our track here is probably the worst friend of any SRT4 in the country. Average 1/4 mile times here are at least .500 slower than mainland tracks. I haven't seen any bone stock SRT4's do better than mid 14's over here. Track & weather conditions here are a killer. Some mainland SRT's do hit high 13's bone stock, street tires and all...But nowhere near that over here...But maybe some really good driver caught HRP on a perfect night?
---------------------------------------
As for the used one selling for 22K -
If it's the red one in the "Buy & Sell" classifieds, I know who owns it. It has some really nice upgrades to it. To name a few...Perrin FMIC, fully adjustable Mopar Stage3 coilovers made by KW ($1500 alone for those things), BDJ's Racing 3" exhaust, Mopar Stage1 turbo upgrade, and probably a few things that I'm not aware of. If it's the same car that I know of, all of the mods were installed by Dodge technicians, & the car is being sold because the owner is buying a house. It is a fast car.
----------------------------------------
Engine reliability concerns...The SRT4 doesn't have a 1st or 2nd gen Neon engine in it. It has the same engine as the PT Cruiser turbocharged model (GT Cruiser). As with any car, if you take care of it, it'll take care of you.
----------------------------------------
Car insurance...I pay $105.70 per month for the SRT and a '93 Ford Ranger 4X4 Pickup truck combined. Insurance rates vary tremendously depending on the driver. (Me = Old Fart!) LOL!
:edit: PS - And NEver NEVER pay full window sticker for a new car ;-)

Welcome aboard! I think the SRT-4 is a modern musclecar.

keep in mind that the engine in the srt4 now(2.4L) is practically a mitsubishi...
(someone may correct me if otherwise) so the reliability is there in terms of engine- however, being a previous seller of dodges... notorious reputation in terms of "things falling off". don't mean to be brutal to the srt4 dude, but i've never had a customer complain about panels(in da subies i sell) "peeling" or bad brakes(which the ealier neons suffered) - though through time comes refinement- with american products refinement seems to be profit focused...not quality focused.
