Thanks,

My friend has a compustar on his car and he queried it from City Mill in waimalu shopping center and his car was parked at Buffet 100. I think that's pretty good reach. Compustar received a innovations award at the last CES show. The only thing is that it's really pricy.

I've always liked Alpine (decks) and the cda7897 has some good sound quality...although I have heard of some mechanical problems with the phantom face models. And there is no local Alpine service center.....that being the main reason I went with Kenwood this time along with the fact that excelons have a 2yr warranty.

By the way whats you're reason for looking this particular deck? Is it because you like alpine and it looks cool (it really is a cool deck ), or is it because you want a good deck?

When I had my Civic, my stereo got jacked and I was looking at getting a new deck, and the Alpine 7897 was the deck I wanted to get. I never bought it, because I sold the civic and bought the WRX. I have heard about the mechanical problems with the Phantom Face units and wanted to get an opinion on it from a person who's used one.

I am looking at some Kenwood Excelons also. I'll probably just keep the stock suby stereo and wait till the 2004 Alpines and Kenwoods come out.

Thanks for the info Acarguy

I was thinking of getting this model but decided to wait on DVD system. I rather spend my money on performance mods rather than upgrading my Alpine 7897 to the DVD. I only been using my radio for 6 months now anyways....alot of life left in the unit.

where'd you buy it from? you might not even need the receipt if the record the info like they should. also kenwood does have a one time repair if its out of warranty....which is pretty cool

it got it from my friend's friend who is the local distributor of kenwood for the island. not sure if he logged it down since i got it at his cost from the manufacture. i wonder if they will warrenty it without the receipt since the model isn't even two years old anyways. thanks for the help.

I'm pretty sure they will....from what i've heard from the older kenwood shops (progressive, island sound, etc) kenwood has given some awesome support to them.....and if you have any problems I'm sure your friend can help you out.
