static electricity?
anyone else have a problem with static? i get shocked quite often after getting out of my car and closing my door. could it just be i'm rubbing too much against my seat while getting out? never would have thought i'd have this problem in hawaii, but just wondering if it's common and others are having the same problem.
thanks.
thanks.

i get zapped almost daily getting in and out of my WRX. the last few cars i owned had leather interiors, so i don't know if it's something common to all cloth interiors, or if there is something in the WRX's interior that does it.

yeah i get shocked everynow and then too. i've just learn to live with it. but it isn't as bad compared to the mainland. try and use bounce in your car. it might help keep down the zapping plus it gives a nice fresh scent.

To avoid the shock, I would hold onto the frame or doors (on the metal as I got out of the car, so long as I held a metal part as I stepped on the ground it would ground me... If I didn't... well zzzaaappp
Anyone think that could be bad at a gas station?

I'm surprised you guys get static shock in Hawaii. I get it in CA during days with relatively low humidity. I think it has something to do with the fabric that they use on the seats.
Subaru must know something about this because Drive magazine mentioned that the gas filler door is designed so that it only opens partway on purpose. Opening the door all the way by hand discharges any built-up static charge on your body before you open the gas cap and KA-POW!

I get shocked all the time. Mostly minor, but some are pretty big. On my old car, I used to get shocked from the door handle.
But with the rex, for any of you who's been to my house knows I have a gate I gotta open to park, and everytime I touch the handle, I get shocked.
Sometimes their so big you can see the blue spark, it sucks.
And it hurts like hell sometimes.

ah ok... i'm just glad that it's not something weird going on with just my car. yeah, i found it really odd that i got zapped so often with my rex. never had that happen to me before, and you would think because of the humidity in hawaii it wouldn't happen. *shrug* just gotta live with it.

Pretty much anytime you rub your butt against the seat, you create some kinda static charge. Kinda like futting around on astro turf. You know, rub your shoes on the turf, then zap someone next to you...
I remember this Dateline or 60 Minutes special, where there were numerous accounts of people filling up their gas and they didn't discharge themselves, which in turn created a spark and BOOM!
Ever since, whenever I go to the gas station, as soon as I get out I touch the car to discharge.
