So my next Idea is............
.......I want to do a road rally, I'm going to do these some day (soon).....

I need to come up with a car that I can do it in.......right now I'm thinking a 95-99 NSX or a 96-98 BMW 840ci
The car needs to have at least a v6, geared for high speed, can with stand a 3000 mile trip and a car that I can afford.
what do you think?

My personal
opinions. The NSX is a great car. You don't have to do much (if anything) as it's light, well engineered, and fast stock. I have the Getaway From Stockholm video with the NSX. A twin-turbo Supra is hard to beat, cheaper, and easier to come by. It is heavier, but can be modded to h3!!. There are Supras making 1000 hp. I have the Getaway From Stockholm video with the Supra and the Cosworth. The Supra in a straight line pulls from the Cosworth. The RX7 on the other hand, is one I'd stay away from (sorry Pat). There's a good reason the new RXs don't have turbos, reliability. The turbo Wankels suffered from heat. The other reason I'd be careful with the Wankel is the limited number of people that can actually work on them or modify them for performance use. No comments on the BMW, other than most are pricey, and parts are usually overpriced (not that my Subaru parts are cheap).

Heck, I don't know. I know precious little about cars with cylinders and much less about rotaries. I think they're gorgeous cars (not a great reason to buy one, but definitely a factor in that case.)
Are you thinking about something that you wouldn't have to modify? How much power? How pretty does it have to be? What about a GTO?
Coming from your mouth, I wouldn't even begin to make an assumption about what you can afford.

dont go with the 840...8-series cars of that vintage are prone to the "nikasil" block problem...google it or search bimmer sites for more details...some blocks were replaced under warranty and some werent...and, they are GREAT cars, and prices are affordable to purchase, but EXTREMELY pricey to maintain...i'd stay away from them...

I agree with poser I showed a friend your post he has some experience with BMW's and he said there are better models to go with. I told him you had a STI and we agreed that you should use it...If you do one of them...And if I am back in the mainland I told you I'd do the Silverstate with ya..

Why not a Supra? Better yet (more affordable) and RX7?

No supra too much $$$$ still
I wouldn't use the STi because........(and if I'm out of touch here let me know).........
1) I think an N/A car is going to be more reliable.
2) At 120 + mph the RPM's are alittle too high.
3) Gas mileage sucks........( I know what you guys are thinking........I don't want to hear it!)
4) I'm looking for more of a sport touring car, than an all out sports car.
For the 2003 Gumball3000 140 started and only like 80 something finished......most of that was due to mechanical failure. I don't want to get 1st place, I just want to keep up and finish.

For around the same price that I can get a non-mod'ed high mileage 94 TT Supra very (hard to find).......I can get an 96-97 lower mileage NSX (easier to find)
I would love a supra and when the time comes to buy if I can find one in my price range I'm on it.
