price gouging (can't help it, its more so of the situation in the world) plus just basic business/economic invisible force..ur loosing out on profit and max gains if u don't charge what ur competitors are charging.
also conglomerate, monopolistic stuffs man.. oh well.

That is why Lindle Lingle is asking Chevron and Tesoro (I think) not to raise prices cause I believe that the fuel that is available now was bought even "before" hurricane Katrina and prices shouldnt have an effect on local prices this week,..
But, you know that isnt going to happen,..all gas dealers are going to charge the max price they can to make a profit,...
The gas cap sucks now, and we are told to be patient,..but we'll see if this law any good when prices go down (if ever) in the mainland,..Locally, according to the law, our prices will too,..

13.6 gallons @ $3.06/gal for 89 octane in Hilo. Premium has been over $3/gal for quite a while here... I paid $3.13 in Wiamea back in July.
gdogg - to answer your question, the bottom line is - cause they can. Gas can be $10 a gallon... You gonna stop buying it? Me niether. That's the point.
I am SOOOOOOOOOO (etc) tired of people saying we shouldn't complain because gas costs more in Europe. It could be worse? Sure - it could always be worse, but that doesn't make it OK. I lived in England for 2 years - it cost me $70-$80 to fill up my Mondeo (like a Ford Contour) every time. But things, roads, police, healthcare, everything is different there. Don't think that the minute we start paying European gas prices that we will get all the good things that come with the bad prices. Gas is cheap or expensive based on what market analysts believe the public will still pay PERIOD. If people would actually group together and make a stand, prices would come down, regardless of what politicians say or people print in the papers.

Teah gas is pretty high but no higher then in most countries. I personally am not worried about the gas so much as I am about the people in Mississippi and Louisianna. Much more to think about then an extra dollar a gallon.
