Thumbs down so this is bad right?

so i started on a turbo inlet install today and found this... the oil is probably from not having a catch can, but whats up with the chipped blades? seems to have a little bit of play too...

Ummm, yep. I'd say that looks bad. Fill out your profile so we know what you're driving. But how's the rest of your intake tract look? Dirty?

the inlet pipe is a little oily... the tmic had some oil as well, i cleaned that out a few weeks ago.. the car has 40k on it... i was planning on upgrading soon anyway, but still... this sucks.... i need to know what caused this so i know how to prevent it.. simply looks like debris made it through the intake, what do you guys think??

thanks

I can't really see in the pics, but are the blades actually chipped like something big and chunky got through or just worn like there was a steady stream of sand? Also, that looks like a lot of oil, my TD04 didn't have anywhere near that amount of oil when I pulled it after 75,000 miles.

BTW, I've got a Watts coalescing filter FS/T if you want. There's a good write up on Scoobymods HERE as to why it's the ONLY way to go if you really want to keep keep oil out of your intake rather than have some underhood bling.

Oil cans are cheap, like $100, and it only takes 15 minutes at the most to install too

Yikes...what the heck fell into your turbo?!

Yeah and those catch cans with the coalescing thingie sounds pretty good.

I had no idea that the regular catch cans and filters others have been trying aren't rated to catch oil aerosols.

I think you should do this especially with your level of mods.

thanks for the replies...

yea, catch cans are definately going on with this up coming paycheck... i never did it because i hate the look...

i finished installing the inlet pipe and damn.... the turbo spools earlier. sometimes it pulls hard right away some times it gradually pulls. must be broken hope it doesnt explode

the inlet pipe installation has to be one of my worst experiences ever. if you are gonna go with a hard inlet pipe, go with aps. they inlcude addtional hardware to fit the huge 3in pipe in there.. i went with an Agency power hard inlet pipe because it came polished, i didnt want it crinkle red. the problem is it is hard to fit, no instructions, no additional hardware. i had to cut, re-route, bend, extend, you name it to make this thing barely fit. the best part was going to the hardware store tryin to source all the odd pieces and pipes

removing the manifold was also a pain in the ***... but now that i did it once, it will be easier next time when i cut out those stupid tgvs....
