Sorry for the slow reply guys. Yes this was a military transfer. I shipped it from matson through American Auto Logistics....

The guys at Cobb are some of the best suby mechanics I've seen. They had the tranny out an cracked in literally 45 minutes.

I don't know why I didn't put my car in "don't kill my car" mode....

I've shipped 3 cars via boat:

1. Porsche 911 - no issues at all, shipped from GE to the USA.
2. Mazda Rx-7 - was flooded with salt water, total write off. This was a major bummer to me because I would have LOVED to have an RX-7 in the U.K.
3. AWD Eagle Talon - Fell off the boat.

I've also had less than wonderful luck shipping cars.

Sorry to hear your pain, good luck.

I lucked out. My car was so spanked and the bumper messed up before it went on it didn't matter that it was partially hanging off when I picked it up. I wish I remembered to put it in valet mode at least. Although, it only had 2 miles extra from when I dropped it off.

I am not sure a about newer cars,Some of my friends with old hot rods ship there cars to L/A for car shows, anyway they make it so there car can't have full throttle. Also others that set there rev limiter way down.

Sad that you would have to do all this just to ship a car! As we always hear about all the idiots out there that like to joy ride cars that don't belong to them!

Damn, you didn't describe the damage near well enough!

Man, I am telling you a 3K rpm limit is a MUST when handing the keys to your car over to shipping companies!

I've had a coworker get his Lightning with brand new paper plates...less some tire tread and rubber all over the fenderwell...not to mention a slipping trans....good thing he was a trans guru...

guess thats why ford puts all their shelby gt500's and ford gt's into a limp mode until PDI'd...i believe other companies have that effect as well to unlock new vehicles back to full power...

even back in the day when we still had IDRC...had matson issues with their race cars being shipped over...

theres another shipping company to use that stores your vehicles in containers...forgot the name...but thats the way to go....and just think...we pay those stevedores more than enough to be professional with our stuff...

personally...we had our defender 90 shipped over with its winch kit stolen from the vehicle...of course everything documented and matson paid...

Holy crap. This thread is getting me scared to ship my car to Honolulu. I am going to be moving there May of next year for a job and was going to ship my 09 WRX and did a search on any threads about shipping to Hawaii and this thread scared me. I have read about making sure on shipping my car in an enclosed container during the boat trip to prevent salt water from getting to the car but never thought about the worker driving the f*ck out of the cars in the dock. i thought once you drop off your car that it would be shipped the same day.

yeah the insurance clause on all the shipping companies i have search have them liable for nothing if anything happens to the car. all have a clause that says it is not there fault for "Acts of God" i like WTF that means anything.
