just get recon, it's not that tough of a process to go through. What kine trouble are you having...tint, rims, susp. The only things you need recon for is suspension (lowering your car), rims that are 2 inches bigger than stock, nitrous, and carbon fiber hood. Aftermarket exhausts, intake, even if your car is stock and you boosted it will still pass. You just note that on the recon papers. Trust me bro, i played this game when i had my lightning, go to Hawaiian Tire near the Ford dealership on Kam Hwy, and get a wheel alignment ($100) and they'll re-align you to factory settings, if you're tint is too dark on your front windows just peel it or get 35% and then go to recon with drivers liscense, alignment specs, insurance and registration and a GOOD attitude and they'll hook it up. Blacked out head lights and tail lights are completely illegal in hawaii.
If someone BSes your safety check and you get pulled over you're goin to court and they'll loose their liscense. Jiffy lube already lost there's till December. But unless you know an inspector personally, you're better off getting recon.

Yup, +1 for Recon. I'm going for round 2 next Monday. Everything passed on my car, except my headlights. I guess my Teins were alright and the front windshield tint was detected...LOL! Should have my recon by Monday and then safety check the next day. Finally, since my safety has been expired for like a month and a half.

technically no you will not...if the guy knows what he is doing then you will not pass because you need recon for ANY modifications and to pass safety. do any of them know or care about what they are doing? usually not. if your car is insanely loud they might say something but usually it's ok.

do yourself a favor and get legal tint.... from experience its not worth it. plus when you get in at night you will be like "holy sh#t i can actually see" lol. but seriously how can you see, when mine was at 19% i had to have the windows down at night, 5% seems ridiculous.... Most cops dont seem to care to much about engine/body mods, but if they cant see in your car its a threat to them so they get kinda stingy. just my 2cents. then again, half of them have their windows blacked and their trucks lifted and i dont see any recon...
