The Roadmap to Better Performance - POWER

OK gang, I'm gonna start planning out my purchases for my car (2002 WRX Sedan). Let's map it out! This is the POWER thread, I'll also be making HANDLING and LOOKS threads. I'll also put (Bought) next to the ones I already got. Throw in suggestions if you think I'm on the wrong track!

Level 1: Mild aka Baby Steps
-Scoobysport UP and DP w/CEL Fix
-Borla Hush Exhaust
-K&N Drop-in Filter (Bought...LOL)
-Royal Purple Engine Oil (Bought)
-Neo-Gen Trans and Diff Fluid (Bought)
-As money becomes available

Level 2: Small Kine Nutz aka 2004 Tax Returns
- Borla Header
- STi Pink Injectors
- STi Fuel Pump
- FMIC (which one doesn't make you take out the Fogs?)
- Upgraded Intake because of FMIC fitment
- PWR Radiator
- Oil Cooler
- Street Clutch Upgrade
-- Turbo Upgrade VF22
- ALL AT SAME TIME!

Level 3: Buck Wild aka 2005 Tax Returns :P

-- Upgrade Internals with Cobb Stroker kit (Crank, Con Rods, Pistons etc.)
-- BOV!!! <----what the hell, right?
-- Stickers...J/K
- STi 6 Speed!
- EcuTEK w/dual maps for 18 and 20 PSI
-- ALL AT SAME TIME!

HAVE AT IT YA'LL!

EDIT: Switched Turbo and Gearset upgrades...moved EcuTEK to Level 3 for only one flash and higher PSI.
EDIT: Thanks San...6 Speed!

if you get injectors, fuel pump, and engine management, might as well go a little more and get the turbo too! turbo XS has a new fmic made by themselves instead of hyperflow and its about a grand plus shipping! pretty good deal i think!

I agree. Swap your gearset & turbo purchase around. Your stock tranny shouldn't have too much of a problem with the VF22 as long as you're careful driving.

For the FMIC and keeping the foglights look at TurboXS, MRT (I think), and APS. Also, I think Perrin makes one that keeps the foglights, but I'm not 100% sure. I'd definitely go for the TXS one for the price!

Other than those $.02 of mine, looks pretty good!

Hmmmm....only reason why the Gearset is in Level 2 is because I wanted to do my clutch at the same time...will look into it...THANKS!!!

Yeah, some of the stuff will most likely get changed around!

You might

want to check the other forum for reviews on the TurboXS FMICs. I would steer towards APS. More money, but even the ver 2 TurboXS has some problems. I wouldn't worry about the fogs. They were pretty uselsess anyway. You sure you want the VF22? If you're going to upgrade the internals, I wouldn't buy the RA 5-speed gearset. The weak link with the 5-speed is the case. Why spend money on something other than the weak link? Just depends on your horsepower expectations. The 6-speed (or better) is a no-brainer. Just my thoughts, mileage varies greatly.

is this your daily driver? if so then you'll want to look for a slightly streetable turbo. If it is not your daily driver then it's ok.

vf34!!!!!!! there is a lot of lag for the huge turbo as is the vf22, more for freeway action if you ask me, but if you want more peppy quicker hit power compared to the vf22, then get the vf34 or the vf30(if you want to save some money) as for a aftermarket street clutch, not sure if it will help too much, in fact it might lower the life of your tranny if you drag a lot since it grips on more than the stock one, you might want more slippage when you drag, so the stock clutch would do fairly well, unless if you decide to beef up your gearsets, then an aftermarket clutch will do good, i say do the basic stage 4 setup first, injectors, fuel pump, turbo, engine management, and some people here stay with their stock top mount for a while, but hey, get a fmic, its much more bling! haha and then later you can think about beefing up your cams and gearsets..
