Reverse is completely byebye

Ok, here's the verdict.

Just got my car back from a $75 visit to Royal Subaru here in Bloomington. The $75 was to tell me that not only were they not qualified here to do it, but that none of the Suby service departments in Indianapolis had anyone qualified to do it, neither. I even gave them a tip. I said, 'make sure and leave your ****ty service out of your advertisements.' I miss Ed and Braun.

The cause of reverse failing is blamed on the reverse lockout not disengaging fully. Y'know, it's not like how you might forget to take off the e-brake and drive around with it on all day. I put it in reverse, back out, and then put it in 1st. I don't see where they 'stress' that could kill a straight-cut gear might come from.

So I'm left driving a car that causes me to look for only 'pull-forward' parking places.

In a week and a half, I'm headed to SC to go to a short school. Maybe when I'm down there, I can find a good, Suby-friendly place that won't cost much. Of course, there I'll have access to the Army's AutoCraft shop and their lift. Maybe it'd be a good time to throw in another clutch, too.

This ain't Hawaii. Very few WRX' around here and from what I've seen, they're lightly to nonely modded. I guess, no need for a Subaru trained transmission expert.

sorry to hear about your reverse... strange service department- guess they spend more on advertising than on training their techs.

when you say SC... u mean South Carolina?

Pat, I have family that are extremely car savvy (restoring cars from a heap, rebuilding motors, tranny's, etc....) My uncle & cousin both work at the Subaru plant in Lafayette (QA & engineer). I can call them in the next couple of days if you'd like. I'm sure they know someone good that could help you out and do it right.

This is a bummer. As always, it'll work out. Get your 6th gear looked at while they're in there!

Pat, Lou Fouz Subaru in St Louis is where I bought my WRX, and it is worth a try.

No, I seriously doubt it is although it's a subaru trans and a subaru car. I had a Japanese-spec 6mt installed in it. They are just saying that it can't be fixed here because they aren't qualified to do it.

Thanks for your RAGE!!! I seriously appreciate it. I sent an email to SOA, but haven't received a response yet.
