My friend told me that a stock WRX turbo has to be serviced every 40,000 miles. When he told me that I got nervous because my car has 128,000 and I never new about about servicing.
Please forgive me if this was mentioned somewhere else but what do you do to service the turbo?
Is it more cost effective/easier to just replace the turbo?
Any advice would be appreciated.

For me personally the rebuild was just a matter of having $$. I have two vf39. One blown and one operating (assuming it's the turbo, smokey). I sent the blown one off and my car remains drive able. If you can afford to be down then go new or even upgrade.

Driving habits determine life (usually). If you're looking for a new td04 then look on Craigslist.

So to "rebuild" a turbo you basically just send it off to a shop?
Is that right?
What type of turbo does a stock STI come with?
