rattling/shaking on the shifter
Posting for a friend. He has an 05 STI bought in january, has only 700 miles, there was rattling coming from the shifter, took it to 5-Star then down to Ohana. Gave him a new tranny because it was hard to shift into 1st and 2nd and hoped that it would fix the rattling noise also. They did some adjustments/fixes and now say that it is normal for it to rattle. Is the rattling normal? He also filed for a lemon on his car and if needed would like someone to testify that there's no rattling in their car. He also willing to pay them for testifying.

LOL...
the shifter **** might be loose.
there is a pin that goes through the shift **** to secure it to the shift linkage. if they didn't use the right tools or your friend didn't use the right tools...etc. and didn't put it back on right it could cause that noise.
this will not qualify for lemon law. it is made out of plastic metal and rubber so the best thing to do is to have them replace your shift **** and shifter pin and that should take care of it. my friend NATE has the same problem but when you put your hand on the shift **** it goes away.
you cannot file for lemon unless the problem went in 3 times for the same problem and wasn't fix and stayed at the shop for considerable time all 3 times.
if he got a new tranny out of just a rattle from the shift **** that's a pretty good deal.
did he replace his shift ****?

he doesn't believe they changed the pin.
1st time: 5-star lubed the shift linkage, didn't help
2nd time: 5-star didn't know what the problem was, my friend decided to go to Ohana
3rd time: Changed the bearing in the TC, old bearing was wobbling around, was still vibrating but not as bad as it was originally.
4th time: Replaced the transmission instead of changing the synchros, corrected the 1st and 2nd gear prob but the shift stick was still making noise, can hear it at low rpms. Subaru claims that this is normal.
"my friend NATE has the same problem but when you put your hand on the shift **** it goes away." -does this still exist?
