low refrigerant can cause the a/c clutch system to periodically engage and disengage due to the pressure always dropping. if you are just hearing noise, maybe your belt is loose??? an a/c compressor is a big load on the engine....

oh and ill try tightening my belt a little too but the noise doesnt sound like a belt noise its almost a metal type of sound (if that makes any sense)

hmm, the only thing that i can think of that makes noise like that is the clutch/pulley system... its basically two pieces of metal magnatized together when engaged... any real A/C gurus wanna chime in??? lol, kinda curious...

If the refrigerant is low, wouldn't the compressor stop engaging the clutch to begin with to avoid burning it out?

I've been fighting a AC leak for a while, since it's so cold now I haven't bothered to fix it, I should before the summer heat again T_T

schrader valves (high and low side)? the obvious is seeing it bubble out...; front compressor seal (a lot of dirt will collect to the front of the compressor because of the oil/freon coming out)...other than your typical leaks that would be present along the lines accompanied by sticky dirt....then the dreaded evap that youll smell through your vents...

I would tighten the belts and have the pressures checked (not recharged just yet).
Ask someone with gauges to check your low and high pressures, and make sure it's within spec.
Check for the compressor cycling on and off (actually watch it).

If you don't have access to a manifold gauge, you might want to try and watch the compressor as someone turns the a/c on.
The compressor should start spinning immediately and shouldn't turn slowly at first then quickly when the a/c is kicked on. The clutch could be slipping. You may also see it cycling (turning on and off which is different than slipping). But without gauges, you'll only be guessing.

Did you have it serviced recently? Mine was overcharged by Goodyear techs, and when I checked the pressure, it was 20 psi above spec on the high side, so the compressor was cycling and making a not so healthy clunking sound.

Without the gauges though, it's hard to tell what it could be.

Well, I believe we've pinpointed where MY leak is. My uncle works in the HVAC industry so I got like $100 in freon for free for testing haha.

My leak is where it connects to the firewall, I believe that's the high side? When the previous owner decided to put a BOV on, he switched the hard AC line for 2 rubber ones, I guess he never had it done correctly.

I just want to get the damn thing fixed cuz I hate knowing somethings wrong with my car >_<

that's your expansion valve...Most of the time it's stuck closed due to moisture. So if you live in a high humidity area, that happens. It's also a good idea to change the condenser/dryer assembly + all necessary O-rings if it is your exp. valve. Here's a pic of the layout https://www.i-club.com/forums/hawaii-43/ac-fix-here-infek-179267/ from top to bottom it is the peice you're talking about that the lines go to from the firewall, expansion valve, and lastly evap core. There are other pics of where it is at. I just played this game last week.
