Questions about factory headlight grommets!

Hey I-Club!
I had a quick question and wanted to get some help or some suggestions about my factory headlight grommets. You see I installed my HID kit not to long ago. I know the factory grommets has to be removed in order for the wiring to feed from the housing to the ballast because the factory grommet has no opening. Is there any DIY, tips to still use my factory grommets or places where I can buy a aftermarket grommets that has a hole to feed the wires through without having the housing to be exposed with no positive seal and might cause moisture, fogging or water to go in while washing the car or raining.

Mahalo for your time and help!

You can always drill the factory grommet to allow the wires of the hid bulbs to go through.

Your HID kit should have came with a grommet for your lightbulbs...those rubber ones where you drill a certain sized hole in your factory plastic grommet and fit the rubber ones through it.

If you decide to drill holes through your factory grommet to allow the wires to go through, make sure the drill bit is the right size, maybe even smaller so it won't allow water to get through

I don't think my HID kit came with a grommet because the HID is universal. What do you suggest?

You could always drill holes in the caps and use silicone to ensure a proper seal.

See those two top hat black looking things to the left of the wires? Did your kit come with those? If so, those are the rubber grommets that you use.

I wouldn't suggest using silicone to seal them up because if you do, you need to make sure your wires are where you want them. If you seal them up and you ever need to pull on or move around your wires a bit, you're kinda screwed there. If you do use silicone, I think any type of silicone would be fine. Never tried it before though.

There's your problem. That is ghetto. If you want HID lights, do it right and install sti headlights. Anything else is just decreasing the value of your vehicle.

If you plan on this route, you would run the wires through the cap and apply the silicone to just full the voided area or excess hole.

I personally am looking into getting a retro fit kit from TRS. It has everything you need to convert your housing to HID and is practically plug and play.

subarugenuineparts $776 each

Then sell your factory headlights on ebay to offset the cost
They should sell for over $200 each

If you had 06-07 I would have the hook-up for you. I have a set for sale.

Does the sti headlights use the same wiring as the wrx?

I havent checked with the newer ones, but I know for sure that 04-07 are a direct plug-in swap.

I'm pretty sure that it would be. It isn't cost effective for the manufacturer to produce different wiring harnesses for the same car.

I agree with your logic but I think the STi's are wired different. Just the fact that they have a beam adjustment dial inside would indicate some sort of difference.

I think the most effective way to convert a WRX to have HIDs is TRS.com Morimoto Retro-Quik System - Complete Retrofit Kits from The Retrofit Source Inc. I am pretty sure you can pass recon with the kit too seeing that the requirements for recon are 1. as long as your car model has the option for HIDs and 2. it has to have an internal ballast. This kit meets the second requirement since the ballast mounts in the same location the OEM ballast do.

To the OP, any updates?
