Question about BOV

Ok guys, now that we got the ol lean machine runnin good i am pondering wheather to stick with the stock BOV on the rex or keep my turboXS bov. cool whoosh sound aside, im wondering if its worth it to have it on. it seems like the car idles a bit rougher with the aftermarket one and the boost comes on maybe a tiny bit slower between shifts, which makes me want to stay stock. plus its less of a cop magnet with the stock one. on the other hand, runnin 17psi with the stock turbo makes me worry a bit about longevity. im not sure what the stock valveo is rated to handle and if it would be a good idea to have an atmospherical bov vs a recirc. let me know what you think. i like the sound but am leaning toward the stock one.

I know for a fact that there is no good reason to have a atmospheric BOV on a Suby other than to show off. However, I like the way they sound so I compramised and got a GFB 50/50. She recircs when im not on the throttle hard and blows off when I want to show off. Just my $.02.

i agree with dark surfer for SURE on his point about the 'no reason to have on unless showing off". I have ran a non-recirculating blow off valve for a while untuned. And i'd have to say it really ruins performance. Your engine doesn't know that it's not getting air back, (instead blowing off) so it over compensates and does fuel to fuel ration instead of air/fuel.
This means you run RICH between sifts, causing backfire if u dont have catalytic converters.
get it TUNED right and run a BOV. Cobb AP is a good ecu manager. and.... find a good local tuner. and ull b set

your stock bov is good for well over 20 psi so your 17 psi you are pushing is not even putting a strain on your stocker. second you will find multiple post here giving you pro's and con's by people who have asked the same question over and over. please search next time we have old guys in here that will burn you at the stake for not searching first.

To blow or not to blow

I think most guys on here can tell you from experience, that a bov will do nothing for you. But no matter how much people hate on bov's, we've all run them before for the "cool" factor. Sheesh, it's why you get a turbo'd car, right? I've run my stocker for a while, an AVO (ran it 50/50 and 100% atmospheric), an APS (50/50), a Turbo XS (100% atmospheric), an HKS (100% atmospheric), a GFB (50/50), a Greddy Type-S (100% atmospheric), and finally my WorxTuning DS2 (50/50). Pretty much all of them sound different, but all do about the same thing...........not too much. Hahaha. My opinion is if you gotta have the sound, at least pick up one that will run 50/50. I think Brad has an APS for sale for $120.....that's pretty cheap, and it's a damn good bov.

I haven't

No seriosly I haven't to me its a waste of money when there is power/handling gains to be made else where. Its money best spent somewhere else, for example the price of a bov roughly can get you these instead steel braided brake lines, sway bars, and strut bars. All three have better gains then just the cool factor. Me personally I'd rather be fast then to sound or even look fast. But hey its only my opinion spend your money how you like.

I'm shocked...people actually mod for sound and being "cool" rather than for performance.

well i already have the bov, it came with the car. i do agree though, the car seems to run (especially idle) better with the stocker and also build boost quicker and more stable. im gonna switch back to stock today, sleeper is the way to go anyway.
