Pulled over and Ticketed
cruising into waikiki for work and feet away from the parking structure an officer walks out onto seaside avenue after i turn from kalakaua.. he flashes his flashlight and motions me to pull over..
he tells me that my exhaust was quite loud, and he could hear it when i made the turn.. so from there i give him my ID and paperwork and he comes back already with a ticket in hand.. 70 dollars, loud exhaust..
i get into a chat with him on how i can dismiss it, court or written, he said both.. so anyway.. any suggestions on what approach i should take?
i'm thinking about selling this exhaust system now, now that i've been ticketed for it.. thinking about a quieter one.. but as far as dismissing it.. a friend said to bring the judge a 50 state legal paper on it.. the policeman said to bring a picture (or mail it) of the silencer on.. or a receipt that it has a silencer..
or i could put the stock back on, pay the ticket and call it a day?
thanks for your input

i witnessed about 2 more differnt people on the way home on kuhio already in front of blue lights..

If your going to fight it in court, bring the 50 state legal documentation and get recon prior to your court hearing. Say that you didn't realize you needed recon, and once it was brought to your attention, you took all of the appropriate steps to legalize your vehicle.
If you pay the fine, Recon citations are NOT considered to be moving violations so your Insurance premiums will NOT be affected. But I personally would challenge it in court and hope that the Judge will see things your way. Good luck.

I thought you didnt need a recon for an aftermarket exhaust??,..
Also, to the cop, a "loud" sounding exhaust is subjective,..You shouldve asked for a decibel meter test or something. Could've been intake noise, engine noise, etc and not just exhaust,..Also at night, there is less ambient noise compared to day, etc, etc, etc,..Should've asked cop to make an appearance at court to explain,..to give you justification for the ticket and not to pass out tickets for the hell of it,..
Funny too cause cops with Ford Mustangs and their exhausts are pretty loud too,..

Well you know that you shouldn't drive around waikiki without your silencer.
It's common knowledge...and that goes for all of you.
I don't even get second looks from cops all over town for my Turbo XS RFL...but I know better than to venture anywhere near Waikiki with my car.
So Pete...I got dibs

silencer or no silencer i bet it doesnt break out of the legal decibel range. i would have it tested with and without the silencer. and like ajakba said at night there is less ambient noise and when you are in between all those building the exhaust bounces off of all the tall building makin it sound awful loud. and i dont believe you need a recon as long as you just have exhaust. fortunately this is a subjective matter because its easy to get turned over as long as you prove that it isnt illegally loud.

how's this..
i take pictures of me putting the stock back on..
show that 50 state legal document, explain i understand that i was making excessive noise and that i didnt realize how loud it really was.. because noise is subjective, and explian that ive put the stock back on and the exhaust will be sold..
sound good?
