I hate the way business is done in hawaii!
After I got my wheel repaired, I went into eurosport to ask Bob if he knew of anyone that did a good job powder coating wheels.
Bob gave me a long speech about how powder coating wheels was bad because you have to bake the wheels after you paint them and the high heat will f-up the temper/strength of the wheels.
Asked him what I should do and he said he knew a guy that could paint/paint match my wheel. Thinking to myself Wheels and Tires are all Bob works with day in and day out, he may know what he's talking about.
Well I still don't know if powder coating wheels is bad or not. But what I do know is it's been 2 months and 6 days and I still don't have my wheel painted yet.
I went in to eurosport today and picked up my other 3 BBS wheels and asked them for the 4th. They called the guy that is their painter but they couldn't get a hold of him.
I asked them for the address of the painter so I could go pick up the wheel myself. They gave it to me and I went down to pick it up. Well the guy I guess shares a shop with someone else and this guy that is painting my wheel "Monk" only works at night.....great
So eurosport sux because they gave my wheel to someone and never did any kind of follow up on it. Although I went into eurosport every weekend asking about the wheel.
and
This painter sux ( I'm sure he's a cool guy, but his way of doing business sucks!!) because he's had a wheel for 2 months and 6 days and hasn't painted it yet. And it's only the damn lip that needs painted not the whole wheel even!!!!
Anyone know this Daniel "Monk" painter guy? I just want my wheel back.

weird. monk is a really cool guy(got me my trueno bumpers and stuff), so i don't know what is up with your wheel. he is also there on weekends, when i dropped by to get my stuff.
would baking your wheel be the same as tempering glass? if so, then it would basically get more brittle and a pothole could crack the rim easier vs bending it? if you find out let me know. good luck. b

For a cast aluminum wheel that technique can do bad things to the material's strength. I'll be honest, I've forgotten all of what I've learned taking Material Science back in college , so I can't go into the technical mumbo-jumbo. However, I've seen pictures a few times on automotive forums of wheels that have failed catastrophically after being powdercoated. The most recent I can think of was a Corvette wheel that had failed at a track event. When they pulled the remaining wheels they found that the other three had similar cracks beginning to form.
Here's a thread from another forum I frequent that explains all this better than I can... http://www.corner-carvers.com/forums...&threadid=5368 .
Powdercoating also will hide cracks longer than paint will, so you might not find a growing problem before it fails.
Now, with all that said, when I decided to get my UK WRX wheels refinished, I elected to go the powdercoating route. I figure for street use they'll be OK. For the Mustang I have a set of Cobra R wheels that were powdercoated red, intending to use them for track duty. Now that I know what I know, I'm not so sure I'll follow through on that.
