Teds MachineShop is what I would recommend too.. Not only all the Muscle Car dragsters go there like the Mustangs of Hawaii Ford Performance, but also Hyper Sports(An old Import Tuner Shop store) sourced them out. Also some of the Old School Racers that had their car featured on magazine when had their works done their too. I also had some serviced done way back then and I was very pleased with them.

Ted's does good work! Craig did my last motor. Snyder's does race motors too
I know Mark and Brian for many years they are the owners and spent a lot of time hanging out there over the years and seen a lot guys with fast imports have there work done there.

Is it worth it? That is entirely dependent on your power goals and other relevant mods. What turbo are you running? Are you stage 2 right now? When you start getting into building engines things become fairly complicated. I don't recommend attempting to build an engine unless you have a lot of time turning wrenches. First establish a reasonable goal. If the car is your daily driver in Hawaii, you most likely will have no need for anything over 300 wheel horsepower as we have no where to use it. But, if you want more, it's your money. After you have a power goal find the cheapest, most reliable method of reaching that. In most cases this can be accomplished with simple bolt on mods. If you have the money to build a car that surpasses the limitations of the stock short block, the next step would be to buy a built short block or a stronger stock one. Chances are, there are better things to do with your money than start building heads. Now, I don't know where your car sits right now so that information might be helpful to anyone willing to offer you some advice or help.
Here is the Subaru PN for a ej207 short block: 10103AB470 Rick @ Servco should have no problem ordering this for you if you are interested. As for heads, cheapest route is some V5 STI heads. Big port non-avcs if I remember correctly. Those should be able to work with your stock ECU after some adjustment of the tune.
