finally got a code reader and pulled this code. gonna see if i can get a new gas cap cause i always tighten so all i can guess is that it's possibly crack. also gonna check all my lines in my engine and around the charcoal canister. Is there anything else i should check?

good luck... is all i have to say.
i've spent hours and close to $600 trying to figure out why i'm getting P0442 and P0456.
GST then was going to remove these codes, which i thought they did, but just came back on 2wks later!
i'd say to just remove this code and save yourself some trouble.

Uh oh. I had the same problem with my old 06 WRX. I changed the gas cap and an emissions valve and it still came back. Turned out it was the rollover valves on the top of the gas tank. Servco had to remove my rear diff to pull the gas tank to change the valves. Cost me alot of $$$$ to get it fixed.
But first thing I would do is check the small "T" fitting thats located on an emissions valve located in the front of the engine by the alternator. Best thing to do is search NASIOC, there are quite a few threads with pics that show where the "T" fitting is at.

I had the P0457 code after I installed my turbo inlet hose. Check all the lines connected to that. I had a hose come off the blue T fitting to the right of the turbo inlet. Yesterday I got the P0442 code. Its frustrating.
