Why is it that when people think of the "military" they focus on the Army? Im not complaining just a tad curious...

prolly cause the army been around a LITTLE bit longer, and they are bigger in the public view due to extensive money spent on PR and recruiting, and just sheer size. the Marine Corps is VERY different....but a much prouder service....Semper Fidelis to any of you Teuful Hunden here...

Little as in three months. More likely because they die in larger numbers and more easily documented ways.

You've obviously never served in an Airborne unit, Ranger unit or in a Special Forces. Tell that to them.

Ok, before this turns into a inter-branch pissing contest, to those of you who apprecite us, thanks. From all of us.
Guys, remember that this is a way to communicate our experiene to people who will never see it first hand. All of it won't ring true to everyone. In other words, it doesn' necessarily apply to you completely, but it does communicate a quite a bit of the experience. Hell, I can't field strip a rifle, but I &@*Damn well have watched my boy's back while we've been overseas. I'm a few weeks from coming home, and five months from when I left. I'm checking in from Saipan, and I can't say how much it means to have you guys say thanks. I sucks leaving the fiancee (and the car) behind, but it's easier when someone says thanks like this.

ive worked with all branches, there is good and bad about all of them, including the Marines (which i am). im not tryin to turn this into an 'inter branch pissin contest' (though nicely put). i have a natural bias towards the marines, but go figure. no hard feelings anyone....i dont hate you cause ur 'army' or cause ur 'air force'...dont work like that. peace to all...

beam: are you in the military? you live in aiea, so do i. you arent at camp smith are you?

Good one

To all, we appreciate the support.
It seems the majority love the military when everything is peaches and cream, but as soon as we are sent someplace (Veitnam, Iraq....) that becomes unpopular, support of the men and women on the beach and in the sand falls.

We don't ask to go to these places, we are ordered and we serve with pride. Most people that have anti military sentiments blame us...or treat us like we made the decisicion to "attack" another nation and end up spitting on the men and women in uniform.

So it is nice to fell appreciated

BTW Navy here as well, but I do not disrespect those that carry a gun and go directly into the face of danger....those folks are my heroes too.
