Opinions on ECUTEK?

hey, I'm really interested to know what boost levels you're getting in each gear, and how well the boost holds at higher rpm. Did you have any boost controller before you put in the ecutek?

Installed the bleeder, reset the ECU and after a little bit of road testing I'm seeing around .10 Mpa (14.5 psi) in 3rd at WOT. It holds (as long as I keep my foot to the floor) and tapers back as I approach redline.
Every gear seems to be the same with the exception of 1st which is a bit lower. (by design). I need to do a bit more testing, but initial results are good. No sign of detonation and no boost spiking.
Before this I ran a MBC for a few weeks, but wasn't comfortable with partial throttle full boost I was experiencing.

14.5 PSI?!?
I am by no means an expert when it comes to turbo cars, but I find it very surprising that Shiv set the boost at basically stock limits. I'm sure it flows more efficiently and revs alot smoother than stock, but I can't help but think there is still plenty of power than can be unleashed safely by cranking the boost up a notch.
Thanks again for the helpful updates.

Surprisingly you can make just as much power with a tweaked ignition/fuel map on lower boost then just cranking the boost up alone. Shiv is known for his reliable tuning over just max power.

Keep in mind I'm ready off a small boost gauge. I know it's at least getting .10, but may be a little higher.
Per the test drive instructions boost levels should not exceed 0.11-0.12 mPa.
As Mitch said Shiv tends to tune for maximum HP (on the dyno), but stay within saftey margins. That doesn't always mean more boost.
While those are max stock boost levels I never knew the stock ECU to hold close to those all the time. What I get now is similiar to the MBC I installed. The turbo spools up and boost climbs to 0.10 rapidly and stays there.

If that's where he wants to set it, I'm not gonna argue. I also see that Shiv no longer has an mbc or any type of boost controller in any of the staged packages. Rally Performance also strongly discourages boost control as an early mod.
...and to think I'm running higher boost without engine management. Anybody want to buy a boost controller?
NOTE: We caution against making a boost controller your first modification, as we literally service one engine per week in the UK that has been ruined by boosting without proper engine management. In fact, if a customer insists on an adjustable boost controller, we ask when they want to make an appointment for the engine rebuild...

... he's not even close to being the only one ...
... now if you use a boost controller with no boost gauge and/or you never f*cking pay attention to what boost levels you're at, ... then maybe you'll f*ck something up. Pay attention, as you should with everything when driving, and you'll be fine.

I know there are alot of people that are running @ 15.5 psi on the stock turbo without problems. I'm just a little wary now that the Ecutek tuners appear to be moving away from that.
It's as if they opened an umbrella on a sunny day. I don't really know what to make of it since nobody else has an umbrella.
Sorry, I'm rambling

Today when I had a little more open road (and less cars) I noticed it hitting .11mPa (15.95 PSI).
Yea, you could still use a MBC and bypass the factory boost control. You would then have to contend with partial throttle full boost situations which could be bad.
Either way I give ECUTEK (with Shiv's tunning) a big thumbs up. It's not for everyone, but worth considering if you want plug and play Engine Management and don't plan to mod often. Perhaps his add-on module down the road will give the people who like to tinker the additional control they want.
The price ($750) is actually reasonable when you consider the cost of a unichip, harness, EMI Adapter, and boost controler.
