Wow, props to you sir for making that analogy work! At first, I was thinking uh oh, taxes are just as complicating as this topic. But I understood what you were conveying. Thanks. I think the amount of money I could save on going OS should've made this decision a no brainer but the ease of use that the AP offers is kinda leaning me towards getting it. Damn modding, it's gonna be the death of me!

good analogy reido;

when my warranty's over I'll probably go AP for a few reasons:

-portability / on the fly switching and tweaking
-valet maps
-logging etc is simple
-general troubleshooting tool (using as an obd reader and logger)

I like the concept of OS, which in theory you can buy the cable and tune it yourself, just like an AP, but the AP tool is nice and compact (I liken it to buying a cheap laptop for logging in the car at all times)

Also having come from a tuning background on streetbikes, I can tell you with the right understanding of the logs your car produces and tuning methodology, youcan make small tweaks to your own system with an AP without doing an damage and actually learn how to tune yourself (if you plan to do that thing)

also as many may have said already, be careful with OTS maps because they are really only general tweaks to cover very specific sets of parts and atmospheric conditions (a map made in chicago will not perform in HI even with the same mods)

+1 get the accessport

pros:
1) ots maps help you add basics first without having to get os tune for 350+ everytime you add a power mod, granted you start with the ots map mods first.
2) features which allow you to tweak rev limits, switch maps on the go (valet/antitheft/reload stock map/etc), portability to hide and remove with ease
3) monitor all kinds of stuff so you don't need a million gauges
4) resale value is huge
5) logging

cons:
1) none really if you think of everything you will gain

This. Having the ability to switch maps (e85 to 91 for example) within seconds was one of the main reasons why I went with the AP. Anti-theft is great in case you don't want/trust your significant other driving your car.

Thanks for all the replies. At first, the OS guys were making really good and valid points but then the AP guys came on strong and well left me just as undecided as when I first started the thread.
I was planning on going OS as it was cheaper but then I got a killer deal on a used AP so I guess I'll give it a shot. I really like the point moto96793 made about monitoring and is partly the reason why I pulled the trigger on picking up the AP.
If I went OS, guys were saying that I a wide band is a must in helping log. With that being said, I would have to get a SMY cluster and a boost gauge because well I'm just weird like that.
I appreciate all of your input and you're all more than welcome to continue with the poll. Thanks!

The QuickStop gas station in Kalaeloa has 92, what would be the appropriate map to download for this octane?

I would go with 91 all day.. another benefit of the ap is that you could go 93 and monitor for a week or so and if logs dont look right, switch to 91.

If e85 was publicly available in Hawaii, I'd save my money for E85 fill ups because of all the crappy gas mileage I'd be getting being at full throttle all the time

I went with ap: threw on a tbe, larger tmic, sri, vf39, and wb255 fp. The ap is simple and safe! Lol the way I figured it was go with the ap run a daily driven safe tune that will benefit the mods. And when a tuner flies down here go for a protune later to fully reap the fruits!
