If you wax your car at all and have any hopes of keeping your paint nice, rally-x should be the furthest thing from your mind.
I'm glad that event will be in good hands, as I'm sure Erica and Cynt will do the proper research for this event.
But seriously, I've witnessed somewhat of a rally-x in Az (wasn't subarus), and I can tell you that no street coilover will survive, even with the perches raised to the maximum. You'll kill the seals in the damper pretty fast just from the dust, and you can pretty much kiss any FMIC goodbye. Without the proper ride height, the STI bumper will probably come clear off if you manage to catch any air at all.
Also, if you have any type of specialized alignment settings, you can pretty much kiss that money goodbye right off the bat, as the first hit will probably screw your camber to hell.
Going through dirt and going fast through dirt and gravel without stopping are 2 different things. Something to think about

I'd actually like to see a typical rally-x setup posted here. If you intend to go slow as hell, I can see maybe how you may get away with just a new set of coilovers with A LOT of droop. That's if you plan to go slow though.
I hope this is not OT, and if it is, I apologize to the original poster, but it might be good to discuss what a typical rallyx setup would look like.

I'm sorry for posting so late, I just caught wind of this "getting out".
We have a venue, cost per driver will be $75 which is entirely for venue insurance.
As of now we are using our own money to start this up so we want it to be what the participants want so that it will be successful. I am going to try to meet up with the venue manger this week to work on the actual surface conditions.
The starting process has been entirely grass roots, FRX (who are the BIG RallyX organizers on the mainland) are willing to fly out here to hawaii and help me with all the areas we the organizers are ignorant in if we chose to go with them.
The SCCA here (Ed Hollman) may be interested but there are a lot of considerations to take in for both them and us.
unfortunately I do not have the time to post on every forum so I try to stick to dirtyimpreza with Walter & Elway helping me out on here.
We are working on getting our own website up so if you have any questions, suggestions, concerns, complaints, experience or have time to help out either post it up on diryimpreza.com or send me an email at reddirtrallycross@gmail.com
The last few months have been crazy for us and we do not plan to hold the next meeting until after the holidays so please be patient.
We will not be holding an event until we can guarantee course safety & no host venue would allow us to hold an unsafe event on their insurance so no worries about our course designs causing people to flip their car or anything like that : )

LOL at all the rally drivers here. FINALLY a motorsport that brings out the hard parkers. You guys won't drag when a whole vacation trip is attached, won't auto-x but will rally-x. Bwahahahahah.
You guys say you bought an sti because of its rally heritage, yet there's no where to do it around here. So why waste 35k and not even be able to do what you bought it for. Cracks me up.

Car Info: STi (cornering, accelerating and braking hard).
If this gets off the ground, I know of a couple of beaters that I might be willing to turn into rally-x cars, probably FF though. Too expensive to rally-x a AWD car let alone a STi.
I hear guys complain that the Maui track is too rough, I'd like to see real rallly-x take place. If you think our track is tough on equipment wait til you go off-roading at Solo speed.
I'll believe it when I see it. Until then, IMO it's all talk.
