Ok, almost forgot. My Xbox problem

Please can the lectures. I know the chance I was taking.

Anyhow, got a good deal on a refurb X-box off of Ebay. The disk is good as I tried 2 others and none worked. The green halo'd light around the eject button will flash yellow and red. Only after I've gotten it cycled (where I can hear the disk begin to spin) can I make it turn back to green by quickly turning it off and then back on. Only once did I get anything on the screen and that was a screen that looked like it said 'clock' but it soon went all snowy and the sound was a high-pitched whine.

Is it complete garbage or is it an over-clock gone bad that I could reverse the shoddy work?

Thanks

that kinda sounds like my g/f's xbox hers got fryed because she had it on her cable box so the cable box made the xbox too hot and it fryed something inside. so maybe the person that owned the xbox before u, may have let it get too hot had it on the tv or there cable box so it fryed and it worked for a little while and now it dosen't work. because my g/fs xbox works sometimes but then it shuts of or looks wierd.

Shaggy's right, it sounds like a heating problem, but I doubt that it is permanant. I would take it apart because I am guessing that one of the fans has died. When you disasemble it you could also swap ou the DVD drive. I'll post some more info if you are interested in trying to fix it after tonights meet.

sure.

Warranty is gone anyhow. The only thing I had found was a mod to make the fan 'always-on' or spin faster.

mine did the same thing when i accidentally left it on for 3 days.
i replaced(actually my friend did it) one of the cooling fans with a cheapie fan from radio shack- everythings all good now. once in a great while my console freezes and i gotta reset it.

Yeah I think all you need to take the xbox apart is a torx screwdriver. Then just go to compusa on the north side of Indy to get a matching computer fan. If that works you should upgraede you xbox so you can save entire games to the HD. For any questions this site always is good: http://www.xbox-scene.com/, and http://www.xbox-scene.com/tutorials.php.

Thanks, although my worries are over (I hope). I called the guy I bought it from (pawn shop) and they will refund my money.

Thanks for the help, though.
