Car Info: STi (cornering, accelerating and braking hard).
Got to run the Ohlins at a Solo event on Maui yesterday. Wow...so much more controlled in mid-corner bumps. This mod along with the stainless lines made the car so much more controllable.
My STi was less than a second off cars on full R-compounds. BTW I'm on a well worn set of 070s.
I was less than a half second off of a full caged, stripped BMW race car in Prepared class on Hoosiers.
Notice the lack of any body roll.

Ohlins FTW.

I'm not on coilovers. I'm on Ohlins fixed perches, with JDM Pink springs, RCE camber plates in front and Group-N mounts in back. Front Whiteline sway bar and a Perrin rear sway bar.

Nice setup. I was considering getting some Ohlins on my STi as well, it would take a while with that pricetag to get.
I was wondering if you knew the interval to rebuilding these struts on mostly daily driven car, I heard from some people that you don't need to rebuild them driving them on the street, and few autox events?

I don't have any personal experience on that issue since I only have about 1,000 miles on them at this point. I don't think a rebuild is necessary if it's mostly a DD with a monthly auto-x. The quality of the units are unbelievable. I've had Koni yellows, seen Teins and friends cars and even JIC Magics and Cusco 2Rs.
The Ohlins are in a class by themselves. They don't look like much from the outside, but just drive on a set and you'll see why I think they are the ultimate struts for my needs.

I like the rate of the Pinks and their drop is enough for me. The RCE camber plates lower them an additional 3/8" of an inch in the front (this is in addition to the amount of lowering from the springs alone). IMO the drop is perfect. I can still charge over rough roads and I don't have to angle over the largest speed bumps.
Also, our Solo track is kinda rough so the bump travel is appreciated when I go racing.
I had coilovers on my VW and to be honest, once I had the ride height set, I never touched the height adjustability again. BTW my VW was also a Solo race car and DD.
IMO the benefit to coilover is the ability to adjust cross weight percentages on scales. If you need to do this, then coilovers are necessary. But for a DD, I don't think I'd go that far.
Again, my car also races in Solo Street Modified class and does very well against cars on full coils.
Find the setup that works for you and go with it.

hows the ride quality with the fixed perched? do you think that they ride better than stock? more comfortable? more solid? i heard someone said it rides like a bmw, haha.

The initial bump is firmer, more noticeable, but once you hit the bump, that's it. The OEM struts tend to oscillate (i.e. "bobble"). The bobble-head ride is gone.
The adjustability is useful so you can go from controlled comfort to racecar firm.
I paired these up with RCE camber plates which utilize pillow ***** so the front of my car is very firm and controlled.
You would have to search very hard to find better dampers. I don't know if they exist. Maybe super expensive custom race car stuff.
