Oh no
Y'all already knew I was a dumbass.
Since changing out my thermo, the radiator has been a pain in the ***.
Last night on the way home from work, the temp just started to climb but not that much. I could smell overheated coolant in the cockpit.
This morning on the way to work, smelled the coolant and the temp climbed almost to the 3rd hatch mark on the gauge. Turned on the heater to max heat and fan, but got cool air. Seemed to bring the temp down a bit. Running behind, so no time to look under the hood.
Going home after PT, had to stop and get some gas so I pulled over afterwards to put some water in to make it home. Water level looked pretty good. Reservior was full of nice green liquid. Noticed a spray coming out of the radiator. Made a dripping sound like there was gallons coming out, but no sign of a puddle underneath. The radiator fan shroud and other hardware were pretty wet, though. Got back in to go home. Gauge needle hovered around just below the 3rd hatch mark. Smelled the coolant. No hot air coming from fan when on max heat and fan.
My estimation is that the new thermo isn't opening up which is causing over-pressure on the radiator which now has a hole.
Is it worth it to buy some stop leak? Should I return this $80 thermo? ****!!!!! (I just typed in asterisks, ha ha)
WTF, over?

Hard to say... Could be a bunch of things... Higher pressure radiator caps (like the STi) can cause our USDM radiators to develop a leak between the tanks and core. But you didn't upgrade your cap (for cosmetic reasons) didja? Hmmm... Have you confirmed the pinhole is not from a hose/gasket?

Well look on the bright side Pat, if it is truley your radiator... You can now buy a fancy schmancy aluminum one. You could get a nice koyo or MRT one.
Or you could try and warranty it, although it wouldn't be ethical.

I warrantied my radiator, but it was a parts defect in the seal between the tank and the core.
If there is no physical damage (i.e. a puka from an errant screwdrive or bolt!) it's still possibly a factory defect.
Take the fan off and get a better look at it. If it looks like it just "sprung a leak" with no help along from anything you did I don't see why it shouldn't be a warrantable concern.

Did you guys see the South Park where Cartman "blew his laughter fuse" trying not to laugh at something that was SO funny yet SO immoral at the same time?
Ummm.
