And now I present to you: The FT86 Toyobaru.

Mixed feelings about this. Looks like a Mazda.

"Conceived in 2008, the FT-86 Concept is a joint development project with Subaru. Eventually both companies will have variants, but for now all we've seen is this rear-drive concept from Toyota, which uses a Subaru 2.0-liter boxer four engine to help keep the center of gravity low in the chassis and give it that aggressive, low-profile hood."

HOW COULD YOU NOT LIKE IT?

Because I already drive a RWD car. With 270 rwhp.

Edited addenum: The new Subaru C-45 engine is sure promising. Supposedly comes in 200hp/250hp variants. I hope the 250hp isn't a turbocharged one. Imagine an STI version.

I like it. Just another car to add to the "empty nest cars" list of once the kids are out of the house.

Let's see so far:

This car
FD w/LS swap
New M3
S2000
Lotus Exige

The list goes on...

I am actually a huge fan of the GE/GH chassis and we have a Mazda 3 in the household. This Toyobaru is a split between RX8 and the 350Z, bodies that I didn't like.

And re: the engine. The 2.0L boxer is NEW. IT is NOT an EJ20. It's the new C-45 motor, which was also a joint venture between Toyota and Subaru. I expect either fuel economy or power. Maybe both. Subaru's EJ25 is not entirely an economical engine which hampers it's sales in a very economical and green minded economy.

if it comes out and 'makes sense/cent$', I'll likely return to the Subaru owners community. For now.. RWD, 2.0L (T) and decent mpg... I have that now. It IS pretty tho.

So if it its equipped with a c-45 boxer motor and it isnt an EJ series motor, i wonder if the C-45 boxer is hybrid capable with the EJ series motor. I also wonder if it'll have the distinct boxer rumble that subaru is worldly famous for.

And I think they will be priced near the 4B11-ed Genesis Coupe.

I feel bad for Hyundai if Toyota does this.

Oh come on Walter, we all know the rumble is from the headers.

If Subaru's version comes with unequal headers, ooh my. I do think that Mitsubishi forced Subaru to create a replacement for the EJ20/25.

Although concepts don't always reflect the production model appearance, subaru's generally follow close to their design. This looks hella promising, and it would be the best looking subaru (exterior-wise) I've ever seen since the impreza's redesign(prior to 2001) in 2002 with the wrx.

Chris, what happen to your motor??

Anyways, is it me or if you look closely at the front fascia, it looks like the new mazdaspeed3 front fascia. Looking like its smiling. I hope they add alittle more aggresive body lines and I hope the diffuser comes stock but I doubt it.
