it would cause an exaust leak, and it would sound like a small animal dying in pain...

Well, lets think about the parts involved. UP-pipes and DOWN- pipes have to do with the exhaust half of the turbo. Boost would be associated with intake side of the turbo.

Run your car at idle, wad up a rag and try to plug your exhaust pipe with it. DO NOT hold it in there! Just plug it momentarily, if you hear any ticking or pulsing sound you may have an exhaust leak.

The easiest way to check for a boost leak would be to get a boost gauge.

if you think your having a boost leak check all your hoses. if you car just sounds different then it's probably an exhaust leak. if anything is loose...tighten it. problem solved

Check your intercooler piping. Check your uppipe as well the headers and exhaust manifold for anything loose.

how so? Do they rise about 500, pause, rise about 500, pause and so on? Thats the problem I had when my car was untuned (did it when it was stock and when it had the TBE on) the dealership said it was "the TCM trying to protect the tranny from the power" which I knew as complete BS and called him on it too. The problem completely went away when I got the car tuned. Since I got it tuned I got a boost gauge and now that its running untuned for a little bit its doing the same think and the boost goes absolutely crazy going up and down.

also what my car would do....when I'd floor it the rpms would jump up and then go down and then climb semi-normally.

both problems went away when I got tuned.

manual or auto tranny?
