New WRX owner intro...
Hey all,
Just a quick hello. Im currently living in Las Vegas and awaiting my delivery of my new WRX. We are relocating to Oahu in early February. Just curious what everyone has done to their WRX's. My main goal will be to build it for 1/4 mile runs. I want it as a daily driver as well, but it will be more speed than looks to start with. Just curious about suggestions. I ordered a set of OZ Superlegs already, the weight seemed what I wanted.
Hope to get together with some of you once I am on island.
Later, Dave

Dave welcome,
You'll definitely see a few of us down at the track.
I'll leave the 1st MOD advice to the 'old' guys because my advice to you would just mirror what they told me to do.

Welcome aboard Dave!
We i-clubbers frequent the track here year round and you can always find at least 3-5 people every friday night. We also have "install days" where we get to gether at someones home and install each others new goodies and perhaps BBQ afterwards.
When you do move down here, be sure to meet up with us either at the 1/4mile races or if your really hardcore want to do more then straight line stuff, check out the SCCA racing on the weekends.
Happy holidays.
P.S. The Giver says hi.

Be prepared to work a little bit harder to make your car faster here on island. Cars on Oahu ran around .3 tenths slower here, due to the heat, humidity and 1950's time keeping equipment.
Oh and buy most of your mods ( the big and expensive ones) in the "states" before you come over here so you don't have to get jacked on shipping.

Appreciate the welcomes. Cant wait to get there. Will definitely meet up and figure out what I want to do to the car.
Any suggestions before I actually come out there would be great. Like was mentioned shipping sucks. Anything the group has a consensus on for mods?
I ordered the car basic cept for the tail, 5-speed, sedan, black. Nothing too exciting since I didnt want to spend the $5k the dealer wanted for all the little parts I was interested in. Hoping the car will be here any day now, it keeps getting delayed.
I am definitely up for the road racing. I used to race (in the old days) my Honda F2 at the track in Seattle and I miss it. Dont do bikes anymore due to a serious crash that left me, well I call it "napping" for 8 days, but the docs called it something that didnt sound as good. So I have to get my need for speed from the cars now.

Oh and hey there Giver, thanks for the pointer to here. =)

As for mods, I'm not good to ask either. Especially about speed.
Welcome to Hawaii.

Welcome!
Getting rid of some cats is always a good place to start (uppipe/ downpipe). Shipping does suck, but it's even worse for exhaust items. Take advantage of the free continental shipping while you can.

Exhaust?
Anyone got suggestions on exhaust. Im so damn particular about it its hard to tell what i will think, but anyone have good experience with any? I personally prefer deeper exhausts and dont like the loudest ones, but seeing as how I want to start going to the strip Im looking for suggestions. Probably will buy some of the heavier stuff here and package it in the car before shipping it.
Thanks again, this forum is awesome. Really appreciate the replies and welcomes.

Last I recall the BPM was hella loud. But a good kind of loud....
I like the Greddy, 5Zigen(my own) Prodrive, and scoobysport(very loud) All of those are good exhaust systems. I'm sure there are more, but those are just some worth mentioning.
Main thing for you now is uppipe, and downpipe. If you can wing it, get a catback too or a full turboback.

Think I will check into the Greddy and see what I can get. Heard a sound clip just now and it seems about what I am looking for. Just gotta see what kinda system they have. Im a major noob when it comes to doing the performance aspect of cars. I have always done the looks first and never gotten around to anything else.
Anyone know a good site to read about exhaust and all the parts? Once I hook up with you guys and you see the blank look on my face when you mention a part like uppie and downie you will understand. =)
Quickie intro so you have about 1% clue who I am. Names Dave obviously, 32 yrs old, Software Engineer and dying to get there where its warm. Currently stuck in Vegas which isnt too bad since I escaped Boise, Idaho to get here, but Im ready for ocean again. Spent several years as a teen on Saipan and been to Hawaii many times, just took me too damn long to get moved there.

Welcome Dave, There was a recent comparo about WRX exhausts in a recent import mag. Can't place my finger on which one but someone here knows and will post shortly I'm sure.

No, the BPM isn't "hella" loud, there are Quite a few others that are much louder. If you're interested in 'the best' downpipe and exhaust you can buy for the rex, it's the BPM MKiii. Arguably one of the best sounds you'll hear out of a WRX. I had mine for about 1 and a half years, and got rid of my rex, that's why I'm selling it. Make me a good offer and it's yours, it'll even come with free installation. It was 1200 new.
mods to get on the mainland, .... you already ordered the rims, that's a biggy on shipping costs. IF you plan on autoXing and want some race rubber, buying a set of Rota's while you're over there wouild be a good idea. Lightweight and CHEAP at $500 a set shipped, .... we don't get that here b/c the shipping adds another 200 or so.
other than that, most items will be just as easy to get here as there. You're really not far enough along mod wise to suggest any other 'big/heavy' upgrades.
Welcome to Hawaii, .... go on a LONG road trip before you get here b/c you're not going to get that oportunity for a While!!
